Looks like we’re having another dry period where news is concerned. Hopefully we’ll get something juicy soon. To pass the time, I thought you all would be interested to know that Superherohype.com has a current poll on anticipated 2009 movies, and Dragonball is at the bottom! I think you all might want to do something about it-or not?

Dragon ball is the only one of those films that havent had any official promotion in the states yet. Watchmen had a poster a year ago and ofcourse people are
pumped for transformers 2. its still a shame tho, dragon ball should still beat out GI joe. I already cast my vote

I wanna see Dragonball, but between those movies I am waiting more for Transformers 2. For the same reason I say this, Dragonball I wanna see but between all of those movies its the one I wanna see the least and thats because movies where not enough effort and time is put into generally suck, I mean..look at Eragon for example.

Well this is not really surprising since Dragonball is going up against two already installed movie franchises and other movies that are more well known. I mean Im still seeing DB but I think the other movies might overshadow it if DB does not deliver in theaters.

I feel like it wasn’t a big suprise that it was at the bottom because most people’s reaction when I tell them a Live-Action Dragonball movie coming out they assume it will be goofy and dumb.
Plus that list was pretty intense with wolverine, and Transformers 2.

Does anyone eles think that it would be cool if Akira Toriyama has a cameo in the film, that same way Stan Lee has cameos in Marvel movies that he created? Anyway I’ll definately vote for Dragonball, can’t wait to see some official promotion.

Ok, I’m fairly sure the only reason it’s so low right now is because it hasn’t been advertised at all. Unless you’re a fan and have sought it out yourself, I doubt man people even KNOW of this yet.

BTW Speed Racer was awesome. The only reason why it did so poorly was because of the special effects. They say they look too Cartoony, but is that not the point?

Lol the Season 5 boxset was supposed to come out the 27 of may and I bought mine the 6th at my local Wal Mart cause they accidentally released it to soon. I’m currently waiting for the amazing 29 eppy Cell Games!
Also, I say just by pictures we still can’t judge the MOVIE yet. WE can judge the characters and that the characters suck, totally agree, but the movie may still rock the dragon.
I mean, we still have spfx, like the Kamehameha and we still got good ol’ Mr.Green(not the guy from clue) Even though once, a friend of mine and I were playing Clue and Mr.Green was the killer all 6 times. Then the next week when my school started back up I had a history teacher named Mr. Green. I was terrified.

Look at the name of the website; it’s obvious that most of the people that visit that site are more into marvel comics and such than DB. Naruto, get over yourself. I love how all we have is a bunch of promotional images and everyone complains about how they look, and not how they act. I can guarantee that DBZ is hella a lot better than Naruto. If you read the latest chapter, you can tell that the guy is just spit-balling on his story and making up a bunch of shit that doesn’t make sense!!! I wonder if you even like Dragonball.

And BTW I also want to see Transformers 2, but i grew up around DBZ and Batman Beyond, but mostly DBZ. I was into manga and anime ever since and was watching outlaw star, inuyasha, speed racer, Card Captor Sakura, GUNDAM Wing, Ruroni Kenshin, and all of the other stuff that showed on cartoon network at that time.
Dragonball is what made me want to become a Manga-Ka, the sole reason I’m studying Japanese. And almost everyone on the internet was convinced that DBZ was cancelled back in ‘04, but I wasn’t. Hering about this made me all happy, and the characters don’t look that bad. I say each one has the basic personallity in the way they look besides 3. ChiChi doesn’t look like much, but that might not even be movie her. Justin Chatwin just doesn’t seem like Goku material, and we haven’t got to see Piccolo, yet, so yeah.
Can’t wait for Transformers 2, though. I have the feeling Unicron is going to be in it, and I have an even bigger feeling now that Jazz was set to return.
PS Thank you to the Anonymous person that liked Speed Racer. Everyone said that it was going to suck because of the graphics, but everyone i know i know who saw it loved it.

Jeff, Naruto is a full of fillers, and things that don’t belong in an Anime. The good guy, bad guy, and one or two of the good guys should have elaborate stories. NOT EVERY FUCKING CHARACTER! I tuned in to see if the story had progressed since I last watched since One Piece and DBZ went off. They were on an adventure with the chicken noodle chef. You mean to tell me they cant just stop showing the show so that the poor comic book artist can make a good plot. Honestly with most western fans knowing that there was an ass load of filler why would they dub it and show it. Not to forget to mention the large amount of faggotry that my Gaydar pics up from that show.
Now that I’m done with my rant of Naruto. I am really suprised at the responses this movie getting when we haven’t seen squat. Look at the people who want it to be a 100% CGI movie. I don’t know about you but when I watched DBZ I was 12 now I’m 16 going on 17. I’m having a hard time contemplating 16-23 year olds who would rather watch a cartoon that something real. Another thing is that you have to understand that this will more than likely end up being a superhero movie not a martial arts movie. In America, if you fly and shoot lazers you are a superhero. The problem is that everyone in DBZ also know karate. If they market this as another one of the superhero movies rather than a martial arts movie(Forbidden Kingdom pretty much has Goku[Monkey King] and Vegeta[Jade Warlord] and came first) then it will do fine with the general public which you must remember is going to see this movie. 75% people who don’t know DBZ, 20% people who watched DBZ but viewed it a cartoon for little kids and 5% DBZ or anime fans.

I fail to understand how a movie can be rated with such blind hatred and ignorance without even a trailer having been released, even a teaser. What have we got to show for Dragonball? 3 or 4 official photos and a speculative Japanese magazine article, we don’t even have photos from the whole cast for god’s sake. What do we have to show for Transformers? A blockbuster franchise with hundreds upon hundreds of millions of dollars investment, well known and defined actors, an established plot and worldwide credibility. Please, although i know you’ve probably forgotten what i’ve just said because of your short-term memory loss, remember that all you do when you post such dumbassed comments is make a complete fool of yearself and appear as a fat, snotty little 12 year old prick. THANKYOU, BOOMER!!! I will admit, I did like Naruto, but i just got sick of fucking hearing about it. It’s not that great!!! Every time I ask someone if they are an Otaku or if they watch anime, they always say their favorite is Naruto. And they don’t even say it right, they always say Nah roo toh or Nuh roo toh. I hate that. DBZ started when I was 4 years old and it changed my life, so until I see the movie, I’ll be dying of excitement.

Boomer SL no, no I wasnt talking about fillers. I stopped watching after like 135 because thats were the main story really ends. And its also where the American Manga ends. So then I started Shippuden and Wow its even better than the original! Fillers were fail from the beginning and thats why I said that its nowhere near DB/Z (Fuck GT). I also never watch American Dub anime except for DB/Z, we always seem to mess it up because of the FCC.

Olly first of all i’m not saying that Transformers 2 or any of the other movies on that poll will be good. We won’t know until a trailer or we see the movie. What i am saying is that this movie will suck for reasons that i will state here. Yes we have yet to see anything but here are good solid reasons.
1.Goku is in High School in the movie. He wasn’t in high school in the anime/mange. He was just a hick.
2.The worst possible think for me is that Krillin is not in the movie.
3.The way Goku looks and is dressed up. I mean he was a hick that lived away from civilization. It appears they made him into a civilized kid.
4.Casting also sucks. Everyone around Goku and piccolo should be Asian. Well not everyone you could get away with that.
5.Why is Ernie Hudson playing as Master Mutaito? (look up the character and see what I mean.)
6.The fact that they created there own characters instead of using the ones in the story like: chiaotzu, tien, puru (spelled wrong), ox King, and, etc.
7.Grandfather gohan is killed by piccolo in the movie. Am I crazy or wasn’t he killed by Goku when he turned into a Oozaru?
8.Why didn’t they make Master Roshi like he was In the anime/mange? They could have put make up on him. Used the trick of the camera so he looks smaller.
9.Goku doesn’t have a tail. So I guess Oozaru is out.
10.Americanizing a Japanese Anime/mange.
The reason why I will hate this movie is that Fox is f#*king up a good story line, and they could be making more money. Yes this movie will make money but it could do better if they followed the story right (more then just 3 movies if story was followed like anime/mange.). Many hardcore DB/DBz fans will hate this movie (I know a bunch of people who agree with me.). If they take out Oozaru how could they do that awesome fight with vegeta? If Krillin is not in the movie, how if they wanted to get Goku Super saiyan? This movie would work out better if it was made like the new TMNT. Live action for a Japanese anime/mange does NOT work, especially when you Americanize it.

2. You choose a actor and come up with someone good enough to play krillen. They basically saved us from embarrassment by not putting him in there even though it would have been nice to see him…

And I will have to agree with you on the lack of Tien… but 3 eyes I guess just doesn’t meet Wongs needs, (Like he really makes all the choices) again the embarrassment role comes to play.

8. I can see that you dont look up on what people say could happen… shame. I very, very well could be in the flashback with Master Mutaito.
9. You repeat yourself. I dont want to see a 30 storie high Monkey going ape (no pun intended) on the big screen.
10. Yes I agree with you but nothing in this world can be remotely what you want it to be.
The Monkey scene was not what made the awesome fight with Vegeta and Goku. The great Galick Gun and Kamehameha wave scene was what made it along with the Kaoi Ken attacks Goku delivers and then the spirit bomb scene.
They will surely figure out how to make Goku SS. Although again I must agree with you on this one.
CGI? No. That would be worse that Live Action. The TMNT was alright but was not anywhere near a real 3rd installment to the trilogy.
Do yourself a favor and choose you words wisely. You used “Hick” way to loosely and should not slur like that, if anything Goku was an alien that landed on Earth to destroy it. But instead due to a blow to the head became a nice little boy from then on. And lived his life in the Mountains of Mount Pow. Goku is not a cow herding insect loving schmuck that lives off of money he makes from harvesting wheat.

Shaobo Qin could have played krillin. Use the trick of the camera and they could use him. Also I just wanted to apologize. What I meant was that Goku wasn’t a city boy. He lived in the woods away from civilization. I shouldn’t have said he was a hick. Bad choose of words. And I really wouldn’t care if all the characters looked different from the anime/mange, as long as they followed the story correctly. But the point is that this movie is not the way it should have been done. If I’m wrong just let me know. But they filmed this movie way too quickly. It was put on fast track. And with a movie like Dragonball they should take there time. I just can’t see this working. I mean if I had to choose I would say not making a Dragonball movie in the first place is the way to go. Firstly I would like to say that I’ve been keeping up with several Dragonball movie blogs for a while now and hadn’t decided to say anything. I am glad to see so many people that love DB/DBZ, (GT wasn’t that great, but I still bought the entire series) as much as I do. But I’m tired of people completely condemning the movie based on a couple of photos. As a HUGE fan of Dragonball (Z), I am one of those people that notices every single thing that APPEARS to be different from the anime, but I don’t care, at least not this early on. I understand that changes need to made when turning an anime/manga into a live action film. This is not the first film to do so. And for the guy that was comparing this movie to The Dark Knight, Transformers, LOTR, etc. Those are all movies that have either A. Been released already, or B. Has a trailer out. You can’t possibly say this movie is going to suck when we REALLY don’t know ANYTHING. Of course, you’re entitled to your opinion, but opinions are usually backed up with some sort of evidence, right now all we have are photos. And they actually don’t look that bad to me. Just because Roshi doesn’t have a bald head and a beard in that ONE picture, doesn’t mean he won’t have one in the movie. Same goes for Goku’s tail, it could be in there. We don’t know. I do agree that Krillin should be in the movie, as for as I’m concerned he wouldn’t have been that hard to cast, I think that as long as he was shorter than everybody to some extent, it would’ve worked, but for all we know, he could be somewhere in the movie, even if it’s just his name being mentioned. My point is this, don’t condemn the movie until you see it. Not a poster, not a trailer, the movie itself. Honestly I’m just glad I’ll get to see a live action Dragonball movie in my lifetime. Think about all the people that loved the anime/manga that aren’t here to see it.

Yeah that trailer is definitely a fake. That dragon is from a movie called Dragon Wars (D-War). It’s funny, I saw that movie a few days ago for the first time and the first thing I thought when I saw that dragon was that he looks a lot like Shenron, then again, a lot of those dragons come from the same legend so I guess it’s normal that they look alike. If Shenron is in the movie, I hope he looks half a cool as that one.

No, jesus, it’s just the popular thing to do, bash the hell out of dragonball with little to base it on. The first trailer should shut everyone up though whenever that gets here. You’d think it’d have been with indiana jones or some other big release but nope Fox wants the movie to fail i guess.

Man, more dumbasses claiming they’ve seen a leaked trailer of Dragonball. And the funny thing is, it always turns out to be clips from D-War, especially the end with the Dragon flying off into the clouds, which did look pretty sweet. And it does look very familiar to Shenron doesn’t it, and most of you (including myself) hope that’s the way our Dragon will look. From the new posters/scans, and from that low quality picture of the set taken a while back, you can actually make out what the face of the Dragon will look like. You can’t the see whiskers or the long horns like in the anime, but you can see the basic look of it. To me it looks pretty sweet, and I personally can’t wait to see who will be doing the voice-over for Shenron. I was hoping they would keep the original guy, who I think was Christopher Sabat right. Anyway it wouldn’t be impossible, as seeing as Michael Bay kept the original guy for the voice of Optimus Prime.

THANKYOU, DRAGONSOUL2!!!! That is exactly what i’ve been trying to talk about. I think that they could’ve added bangs to goku’s hair, but still. I remember saying that Krillin prolly wouldn’t be that great to put in there anyways. I know the guy is funny and he is an important part of the story, but they don’t need to. I also agree that we don’t need to be all assinine because of some set photos, because it’s the way they portray that character that counts. So far, I’m still a little skeptical about Justin Chatwin, but that casting is growing on me. Emmy Rossum is still hot. Just thought I’d throw that in.

dbz series was great because of the fighting and power that has never been done before in a n anime series. i beg to differ that naruto may have some of the dbz elements but it has a good storyline that isn’t always a rehash of the same old plot. ex new baddie appears, none of the z warriors can beat him, they all go for special training and get new power then goku or gohan beats bad guy and there is peace then another badguy who is ten times stronger appears then it starts all over again

True, some movies on the poll are sequels to successful film franchises and people have a positive feeling they’re going to be good due to the first. But some of you may be asking, “Isn’t Dragonball the most popular and successful anime in the world and wasn’t more info released compared to some of these movies on the poll? Why is it at the bottom?” I don’t know a single person outside of this website that is looking foward to this film or that supports it. Usually, the first reaction of someone when they first find out they’re making a DB movie is, “Nooooooooo!” Unfortunately, that was my first reaction to the news when it was just considered a concept in 2002. Only until last year, I did more research on it and gave it a chance and I found the error of my ways. Please people, give this movie a chance! It will definately rock!

Well, the reason for that is because we are all big fans of Dragonball, most of us for our ENTIRE LIVES, and are wxtremely pumped up for this movie. For some of us, it’s like the biggest event of 2009. Also, speaking as one of the people who think it’s going to be awesome and tell people not to judge it, I think they (including me) mean that you shouldn’t make bad assumptions about this movie.

James Earl Jones quoting the famous line ” Tell me your wish” would be awesome. There also seems to be a lot doubt about this movie, but I think it might actually turn out pretty good. Now if they did stick closely to the source material we have had a younger Goku , blue haired Bulma, and a more accurate story. All of these things are good to us but that does not mean it would be to the general public especially after how Speed Racer turned out( I have not seen it myself but will eventually check it out). So I think this movie will probably do good in the box office, please some fans, and set up for a very anticipated sequel.

I was once an avid fanhater of this movie. I didn’t like what I saw, but I had to take in the fact that there is no way we can do nothing about it.
The reason why we all say it’s going to rock and stuff cause it’s better to be optimistic than pessimistic. If you go into the movie with a bad impression, after you keep telling yourself the movie will suck for so long, the inevitably the movie will suck. But if you go into it with good intentions then if it sucks, it sucks and if it is good, it’s good.
We can’t say if it will be good or bad yet until we see an actual trailer, and not a teaser. And we start seeing more advertising. I think that the poll is low cause surprisingly a lot of people don’t know that they are making a movie. My friends and I have been watching DBZ for the past 15 years, we have collected the toys, manga, clothes everything, and out of six people I was the only one who knew anything about it. Just the other day a friend was saying that if they ever made a DB movie the guy who played Liu Kang should play Goku. Haha, how wrong he was.
So the only reason why it’s not so popular is because everyone is dissing it, and not everyone knows about it. Everyone is looking towards Transformers II and the X-Men movie. Until more advertising comes out then it may move up.
And finally once again to retort my first comment, we only say it will rock because we want it to rock. We are optimists who want something good. The others are pessimists who are just to down right stuck up in their own rights to look past their nose.

Well if anyone wants to make a good or bad assumption so be it. It’s not like you can force them not to watch or force them to watch it or to make them like or dislike it. Only Fox can try to do that with their screenshots and advertisements for the movie (oh and the critics can help with that as well). Plus if everyone saw a movie just to judge it for themselves, think of how many more crappy movies there’d be today. “Oh no worries, EVERYONE is going to see this anyway, we’ll make billions whether it’s a piece of trash or not!” When it all comes down to this movie (a movie with no popular previous movie for people to pass judgement on it) what do you think the critics will say? They’re the ones that cause a significant influence on whether a movie is successful or not.
lol, and I’m sure the Lui Kang guy is a little too old to play Goku now.

I think everyone should stop bitching about how poor or mint it’s going to be and just see what happens. It’s a given that it’s not going to be routed to the Anime, that’s just obvious.
Just see what happens! If it flops atleast Anime episodes etc will become more readily availible etc. And worst comes to worst, shut your eyes and listen to the theme tune many many times to rid your mind o the poison! hahhaa!

Hey Guys, i found this website from Wikipedia, and i’ve been looking thru the comments and I just wanted to say that Dragonball is a great anime show and I know a lot of you want to keep it anime, but dont you think it deserves to be a great live-action movie now. Now about the Trailer, a lot of you have been DYING to see a trailer well James Wong is wanting to hold off on the trailer for a little while longer. I believe he said that the trailer will be out in September. But he may change his mind. And also you all want to see piccolo right! Well I can only tell you this… It is AWESOME! I Had my doubts about it, but when i saw James as Piccolo I couldn’t stop smiling. It was really well put together.
So please everyone give this a chance. You all Dragonball Fans out there, you are gonna see this movie Again, and Again, and Again, and possibly Again. CHOW!!

Here we go again. Someone claiming to be a “true fan”, yet saying the movie is going to suck, based on a few NON-OFFICIAL RANDOM PHOTOS THAT WEREN’T EVEN RELEASED IN THE US. Let me assure you. I am a TRUE fan. TRUE fans will see the movie no matter what. TRUE fans will not judge the movie based on nothing. TRUE fans will appreciate the fact that they even made a movie based on Dragonball, even if it does suck. TRUE fans realize that even if the movie doesn’t turn out too well, it will generate even more buzz and exposure to the anime, which we all seem to agree that we love. TRUE fans realize that not every single thing from the tv show will necessarily work in a live action movie (i.e. Megatron turning into a big ass handgun in the live action Transformers movie would’ve looked stupid). It baffles me that we’ve got almost a year until this movie comes out and it’s being trashed like this. TRUE FANS HOPE FOR THE BEST.
