Plansiete has a video interview (in Spanish) with Dragonball Concept Artist, Jonay Bacallado, featuring a few early character concepts of (presumably) Chi Chi, Bulma, Goku and Piccolo.

UPDATE: Jonay Bacallado has said that these images are not actual concepts for the film, but rather filler for his portfolio.

    LOL those are terrible. Piccolo looks hideous like some goblin named Newt or something from one of those old fantasy books from the 1970’s. Goku looks like Roofeo from Hook, and bulma (if that one with purple highlights is suppose to be Bulma) looks just awful. Who drew these? They SUCK! sorry i know everyone can express themselves differently in art but change goku’s outfit and no one would have a clue this is Dragonball. :x

    I am so happy they didn’t go with this concept art. Nice drawing, but it’s no where near close to Dragonball.

    Meh…let me clarify:

    The top girl (Chi Chi? Mai?) looks like a stick- she’s so skinny it’s actually ugly. And no, I’m not some jealous fat girl, I’m actually very slender. And that looks very nearly anatomically incorrect.

    Piccolo: ugly! Bleh. Where’s his nose? Looks like he got his face rammed into a rock wall one too many times.

    The others: meh. They look like video game characters, like from a dark version of one of the Final Fantasy games or something. Not particularly reminiscent of Goku and company at all, IMO.

    we have to thank ourselves for this.
    they would of kept those styles I feel if we as the fans felt like it was good idea to change some things. Our slating about them changing things, maybe changed there minds on changing the characters

    Picolo is the only change they have made on a character, and thats only the clothes, so I am really greatful they didnt use the characters on the designs.

    Bulma looks completely different, Chi chi looks very similar, but not clothes, same with piccolo and goku

    Maybe it’s just me, but that second one looks more like it would have been a better concept for Mai, not Bulma. I mean, this is closer to what Mai actually looked like and wore in the series. Except for, y’know, the neon streaks 8O And is anybody else getting a GITS vibe from that look?

    I kinda wished they’d used that concept for Bulma, though. At least that hairstyle is more realistic than the garbage they eventually gave her.

    I like Piccolo’s concept art, only ’cause it’s more faithful to the original. But then again, he looks kind of…sick. Like he’s about to keel over :| Chichi’s looks WAY too OOC, but that might not have been such a bad thing, considering that it’s Chichi :mrgreen:

    I actually really like them. Except the Bulma one. I do like some aspects of her but I’m not liking the bowl cut. Piccolo not so much. If he had pants then sure.

    The hairstyle is reminiscent of teen/adult Chi-Chi though.

    For the record, I love that one. Goku’s is cool, Bulma’s is decent, and Piccolo’s is just strange. Save that for a Lord Slug adaptation, but I much prefer the Piccolo we’re getting. Marsters has been naked often enough.

    :lol: Chi Chi look anorexic. It looks like they were trying to decide Bulma’s hair color (anime: blue/ manga: purple). Goku’s pretty much the same, with bigger hair and the symbol on the left side the only differences. WTF for Piccolo… 8O
    I agree with coreywilson of him having a thong,but… I dunno, I’m scared and really realived that they don’t look like that. I’ll probaly try not to complain anymore. XD

    they just look like bad anime wannabe drawings and he just drew from a verbal description or idea of what the characters look like and IMO he shouldn’t work in holly wood there are plenty of artist on the web that do amazing concept work that look 10000000xs better then this . I’v drawn some concept ideas of cell freeza ect once I get them uploaded you will see even I would have given fox better ideas on how to portray these characters and I encourage you all to show off your work to show up this hack.

    This is not concept art, it has been confirmed as fake on dbthemovie.com.

    Its part of somebody’s private portfolio who made these characters loosely based on dragonball characters.
