IGN has an interview with Jamie Chung for her new mini-series Samurai Girl. Here are the Dragonball parts:
IGN: Dragonball has such a huge following. Were you aware of it beforehand?
Chung: I’m so scared… I grew up watching Dragonball. Are you kidding me? I love it! So, to play Chi Chi, the girl that I admired, is kind of crazy. I kind of wanted to be Bulma, but Emmy Rossum is perfect for Bulma. She really fits the character essence and everything.
IGN: What was the shoot like?
Chung: It was awesome. A major motion picture and a TV schedule is so different and the budget’s are so different, and the magic that you can make happen is amazing.
IGN: Were you able to take any of the things you’d learned on Samurai Girl and use them in Dragonball?
Chung: Oh, yeah. And I learned even more on Dragonball and I brought it to Samurai Girl. It was great!
IGN: What was it like working with your costars in Dragonball?
Chung: They’re brilliant actors. Emmy, only being 21, is an absolute pro. She knows what she’s doing, she’s absolutely gorgeous – she’s stunning. And she’s dedicated. I was in awe of her beauty. James Marsters has a huge following, but he’s so down to Earth. He’s a method actor and he’s fantastic. He’s the perfect Piccolo. I know they won’t show it to you, but the makeup they did and the mask took three hours to do, and he looks insane. They were very picky and particular on how he was going to look. Justin Chatwin is a pro. Not only does he fit the character internally — he has Goku’s essence — but he looks like a cartoon character! With his big, blue eyes, he looks like Japanese anime!
IGN: What are your outfits like in Dragonball?
Chung: Lots of boobies. I mean, it fits my character name, you know?
IGN: [Laughs] What was your reaction seeing the costume?
Chung: I’m like, “You want me to look wholesome and you want me to wear pants and not show leg, and yet I have Chi Chis!”

But we have already saw Piccolo. But its good to hear that the cast was pleased by the look of him. I still think that this movie is going to be great even though Piccolo doesnt look like everyone expected. Though this is KING PICCOLO, so they will change his look in the other two movies. I think that it’s really cool that the actors were into DragonBall… =) That way they feel excited like us. I hope they gave their absolute best.
I can’t wait! And I think Piccolo doesn’t look too bad. Of course, he was one of my favourite characters (alongside Vegeta), so I’m pretty picky, but I’m sure they gave it a lot of thought. And the end result isn’t too bad, even though I’m still disappointed.

damn, everytime i read those interviews i imagine the director behind them with a gun pointed to their head “tell them how much you love dragonball and anime and how much you like this movie we are making!” especially, not in this one but in other interviews, when they say stuff like “he is such an interresting character, he is like this and like that which is totally cool” sorry, but those always sound fake

Also, 3 hours for Piccolos Makeup? whoopie and it doesn’t show..er at least the green, antennas and pointy ears. Robert Englund on the other hand used to spend over 6 hours getting his make up to become freddy krueger in the earlier instalments.

Piccolo, after being locked up in that jar, actually came out with a dark green color and got slightly lighter when he wished for his youth. It wasn’t until I’d say the Cell saga when Piccolo became bright green.

Noobs ans complainers are kinda why I quit leaving my own comments until I actually saw the screen captures earlier this week.
The entire argument with people that I’ve heard for almost a year ago after this site was started is that they’ll fuck up the whole movie.Now if we all got a chance to make our own version of a Dragonball movie,there’s a %100 chance that none of them would be the same. It’s no different the makers of this movie we’ve been waiting for for almost the last 10 years of our lives.
Like for example: Some people think Piccolo would look dumb on screen as a green color,while others think the green looks fine.If you made the movie you would probably go with what you thought looked better.That doesn’t really mean that one looks better than the other.I prefer green but I see where they might be going with the whitish color.
I also always imagined my version of the movies would be like The Lord of the Rings books. There would be four in the series.
Dragonball being the Hobit,The Saiyan Saga being Fellowship,Namek being Towers,And Frezia being Return.
The way I thought up the story always to myself seemed perfect.Of course this movie won’t be anything like the one I thought up I can live with that.A lot of other people here have to get around that as well.This trilogy will be nothing like what they imagined.I never expected it to.Sure we’ve had some curve balls thrown at us like Goku going to school for example,but once again,it’s someone elses version.Sure they could of gotten someone better to direct this,but Stephen Chow is producing this and although he said that he was taking no creative control over it,I don’t think he would let them screw it over too much.
At least I hope not.
It would really help around this site if people would just keep the treats and the extreme complaints to themselves. It’s alright to complain,but not if it’s extreme.

My thought process for now is this: untill the trailer comes I’ll remian optimistic. WHAT! AM I BLIND! ARENT I A “TRUE” FAN PYSSED AT WHAT THEIR DOING! I’ll be honest, I own the series Manga/Vhs/dvd seasons, and no I’m not pyssed. Why? because I don’t think dragonball as a whole is as great as every fan makes it out to be. The who episode stare downs, the corny stiff dialogue, the sometimes repeat oh my god his power is sooooooo high moments. but what i love, what makes me afan of dragoball is its theme. Its heart. The ideas within that make it awesome. Power levels, ultimite power fighting, transformation… The point is this film could still contain the heart and message of the original. and hey its the only shot were going to get for a while.

I’m only trying to say people need to stop giving the way they’re making the movie so much crap.I know they have a right to,but it just gets a little extreme at sometimes.
If you look at one of my comments on the trailer post,I said the same exact thing you did about this movie containing the spirit and theme of dragonball altogether.That’s why most of us are here on this site everyday.And it’s also why JP started it.
And yes this is the only shot we have for a while.If this movie came out the same weekend as a new Star wars or Batman movie,I would definitely go see my Dragonball.And then watch it 4 more times over the weekend.As long as Goku is still the same hero we know him to be in this movie as he is in the anime and manga then it’ll be great for me.As long as King Piccolo is still the evil villain we know him to be then it’ll be great for me.
I know I’m going to see Max Payne on the 17th just to see this trailer.

Look at all the other super heros they have so many different adaptations from comics to cartoons to tv shows and movies, this will be one more for Dragonball people have to get over the fact that this not the show you watched on tv. I think that for this piccolo, he will look pale green for all that was noted( the prison with no light for 1000 yrs. ) but for the picolo we came to love, he will be greener and this will b 1. because since his offspring of this picolo, his “genetics” will let him stick with the green color. 2. And this makes more perfect sense, the producer or whomever can make the other picolo more greener so we as viewers can identify between the two.We would know that the greeener one is the younger 1 and thus all the buttholes that think that this movie will suck bc he is not green can shut their fucken pie hole up… and if they want they can put a corkscrew up their ass also

Well walsh Most people here, Cant have seen Star Wars Return of the Jedi Have they? Anakin was pale as a ghost when his mask was taken off, and nice pointing out Piccolos ears lol.
And on the anime shades of green it changes as their pallete changed, as most people DONT know is the fact is that animatiors are stuck with the colors in their pallete (and this is why they colored bulmas hair blue, they didnt have purple at the time but had it later when trunks came)

EXACTLY vader is a prime example. This is just a style of how to show a truly evil character in hollywood. Once we saw how disturbed and broken down vader was he died after coming to his senses power can take a strangle hold on you. and suck the life out of you aka “colour pigments”

the movie is shit, admit it… I wish only tminor things like the characters looks were different, yet they changed the whole story and personnalities of the characters to turn it into some Smallville teenage tv drama, that’s why the movie is gonna suck, not just because “zomg teh piccolo isnt green!”

Hmmm… Naruto is not that bad (especially the manga) I have read all of Dragonball and was a fan at the time, but I now find the Naruto Manga more appealing.
I guess if you watched the cartoon in english or French translation, I agree that it’s utter crap.
But the movie will probably be better than the worst of Naruto AND Dragonball anime anyways lol.

Ok seriously after much thought over what we know about the movie I’ve come to the following conclusion. We should brace ourselves for alot of change and a trilogy that has a x-men/spiderman pattern.
For starters the movies will play out with a really good 1st one, an excellent middle, and a ending that deserved so much more (spiderman 3 and xmen 3 anyone?)
This is a dragonball movie in so much as it will retain the heart, character personas, and basic plot premise but it should not be taken as a repeat of what weve already seen. Its somthing new.
Beast/gwen stacy= Krillen probably will come about in the series.
Movie wolverine= Goku in the sence of expect a completely new take on goku that retains his essence but….
Green Goblin= Piccolo will still be the evil Demon and later loyal friend we knew him to be so is it so bad if they revamped his look. Im mean does he really have to be green? (which he might still be)
Mary Jane played by whatever her name is= O h dear god. It might be chichi it might be bulma. but one of them is going to drive fans nuts with bad acting. odds on chichi for now.
Im too tired to come up with more, but you get the point. Oh Revamped origins. Come on people peter had web shooters, and the xmen lineup was completely altered. In the end who cared.
Above all things: THIS IS NOT THE ANIME. this is not the manga. This is the movie why does it have to be the same thing weve already enjoyed. What so bad about somthing new that revives the dragonball universe we love/d.

I don’t agree on a couple things you said, but I think you said it well. I like how you gave us a example of the characters similarities. I agree with you 100% on the similarities of Piccolo and the Green Goblin.
I think Dragonball is going to be a mixture of Star wars and Spiderman
