Yeah, I think the biggest news here is that they were released by fox.
Actually, take a look at the fox website. The movies in the “now online” and “coming soon” columns are nearly in chronological order.
I assume should watch for stuff to be released for “Street Fighter” or “they came from upstairs” (both February releases” before we can expect to see anything on Dragonball.

I love how the producers are not giving much to us, this movie is going to be great just like the Wii. People really didn’t get much info on the Wii, and it prove to be one of the best gaming systems in the world, maybe of all time. I haven’t seen the Nintendo more successful, and I have a feeling that DB the movie is going to be the same way. For the ones that think this movie is going to suck, remember you said the same thing about Nintendo and I bet you now have a Wii in your house.

Is Fox punking the DB fans out there? We all keep seeing the same collection of shots and they look awful.
These little ‘costumes’ the cast are wearing don’t even resemble what the characters wore in the manga/tv series…
Chow-Yun Fat looks like he’s in every day clothes with a photoshopped anime pin-up on his shirt about to give young Chatwin a lecture on how to destroy your acting career before it starts. Wtf, man!?
Chatwin doesn’t look like Goku and I most certainly don’t think he will be able to portray Goku.
And what is with Emmy Rossum as Bulma? Where on earth is her staple blue hair?
They’ve taken so many liberties to change the storyline that by the time this film is done, it will be more like ‘Mortal Kombat’ (film) than DB.
I can’t believe the likes Chow-Yun Fat, Emmy Rossum and James Marsters would take this film seriously…money is money though.
I guess I should feel a little honored that a small amount of the cast is actually Asian…

I like how dark knight can adapt their characters to realism without making it look cheesy yet db is no where near that
if chatwin was ripped and lean at least, it would be more marketable.
none of the cast have anything on them that represent the characters from the cartoon

its an ADAPTATION. all adaptations are twisted, and the story is always off. Rossum might have looked stupid with a blue wig, and Yun-Fat may have looked dumb with a turtle shell on his back. If you want to complain, complain SOMEWHERE ELSE.

If Cosplayers can create believable costumes, then Hollywood can too. There is no excuse for the lack of character.
This movie production isn’t about the story to Fox, it’s about the money. But why spend 100mil+ on a film that is only going to disappoint the millions of DB fans out there? Sure, a lot of people not familiar with the story will flock to the theaters, but will it really be worth it? Fox is going to lose more money than they make with this franchise. And sequels? Don’t hold your breath.
And by the way, as a Japanese-American I am very offended of the way they’re trying to make Emmy Rossum look Asian by applying black eyeliner to her top eyelids.

Um… The joker’s outfit was definately an adapted joker outfit. As is Batman’s suit. As is the Batmobile.
Cosplay costumes may look similar to the ones in the anime, but honestly. For real… would totally not work. Roshi w/ sunglasses and a turtle shell and the beard and the cane is bogus. Plus, his build is too unique to match.
as I’ve said before. First of all, a direct adaptation would be *boring* I’ve seen it already. Second, you want a direct adaptation, that means Roshi nosebleeds, goku penis, that fall down thing they do after stupid jokes…

The thing they did w/ the batmobile, joker, etc… was remove the cheese.
Roshi was almost all cheese… I can garuntee he will wear sunglasses and possibly a turtle shell at some point, they just can’t make that his “outfit”. Just like how Goku is not wearing his gi in all the pics, although we know he has one.

It sounds like you weren’t a real fan of Dragonball if you think these things are ‘cheesy’.
Chris Nolan and the amazing team behind “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” were dedicated to creating the image of Batman that is in the comics and graphic novels.
Fox is not dedicated, they want to make that sweet money and the staff will do whatever the Execs tell them to.
I hope that after this horrible movie fails at the box office another production team will take it upon themselves to make a movie that does Dragonball justice.

And I hate to break it to everybody (dirty spoiler alert) Dragonball (Manga and Anime) were both created…. to… guess what?
If you said make money, you are right. That’s the only reason they were written.
I’m cool with cheese in the show and all. just like with old batman cartoons and such. The thing is… it doesn’t translate to live action too well.

Dragonball was loosely based from ‘Journey to the West’ a classic Chinese story and a great read if you’ve never read it.
Of course Akira Toriyama wanted to make money when he wrote for Shonen Jump. However, his creation gained popularity which is something that could never have been planned.
Yes, Dragonball manga and tv became a very profitable enterprise for Japan, US and many more countries. Yes, they marketed it so it would sell. So what? This was the original work. (minus GT and the crappy voiceovers :D)
If Hollywood can make Marvel and DC characters look like they just jumped out of the comics, then they can make DB look like DB.
And this guy’s Goku is much more believable, inexpensive costume and all:

Wolverine? Does not look like he jumped out of the comics. Juggernaut? Green Goblin? no…
Spiderman does, but that’s only because it’s a full theatrical costume. Part of the point of characters like spiderman is the theatricality (batman it’s key).
It just doesn’t work like that. There is a reason movies like Mortal Kombat or the original Street Fighter don’t have a chance. Mortal Kombat was way to literal about parts, and did not allow enough adaptation to translate it to screen. It failed.
Dragonball needs breathing room to succeed. The worst thing for the movie will be if it is bound to the manga.

I guess they’re going for a stylized/realistic version of Dragon Ball. Those pics of the cosplayers were very cool( I like that guy’s goku hair style and launch and bulma looked dang fine) but I guess they have chosen a different style for the characters that would have a greater appeal.

You think chatwin is dedicated to his role? take a look at christian bale, he did a movie were he dropped his weight and bulked right back up for a role in batman begins within that year

Guys,
I posted the cosplayers’ pics to make a point, those people captured the ‘essence’ of those characters with a tiny budget of their own and without Hollywood make-up. If they can do that, Fox can make the actors look realistic and believable for the movie.
My point with the Marvel and DC film adaptations is that they were believable, even if they did take liberties and changed them around. However, X-men and Spider-man were awful… but we’re not going there.

By the way, did you know the Costumer Supervisor is known for her work on ‘Gilmore Girls’? The other costumers all share credits for Apocalypto and Avatar.
The hair stylist most recently did, ‘You Don’t Mess With the Zohan’… Oscar winning material.
