I know this isn’t film related but I thought it was worth a post. This new special is an original story created by the man himself, Akira Toriyama!

Also, I’m glad to see that it’s not going to take place after GT or anything silly like that. Toriyama could’ve just picked up with where that show left off, but I’m sure he was extremely disappointed with what they did with that show and probably just wants to forget it even happened.

cool this is gonna be awesome. I remember reading the first chaptor of this crossover before and everyone kept telling me that this was gonna be it and nothing else ever. Its gonna be good. The only thing I hopeis that they dont change everyone character and role like they did in the first chapter.

dragonsoul2- Sorry to burst your bubble. But, Toriyama has said on various occasions that he enjoyed GT. He said it could have been executed better, but that he still liked it.
BTW- This isn’t a crossover special. Each show is getting its’ own special to commerate the 40th anniversary of Weekly Shonen Jump in Japan. The shows getting specials so far are, Bleach, Blue Dragon, DragonBall, Gintama, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds and a show I do not know.

Caleb, Toriyama has been making a new story, but not due to the movie. It’s called Dragon Ball Online, it’s an MMORPG. Toriyama did away with the events of GT so it’s official, it never happened.

DragonSoul2- On the GT DragonBox Toriyama asks fans to Enjoy the DragonBall Side story, called GT, as he had. He also said he liked the way the crew handled the show. It’s anime canon, just as the filler. But obviously it isn’t manga canon. It really depends on which canon you believe in.
This special itself could lead us in to GT, and have some mission for Uub and Goku. But from the fact that there are characters who look like they’re from Neko Majin (A Toriyama project that parodies DragonBall with a Giant Cat) it looks like this could be its on self contained, nothing to do with Canon, kind of like the Z movies, kind of special.

Anywhos, Amaranth Sparrow of Daizex’s forums reports this special is titled: “DragonBall: Heya! Son Goku and friends Return” with the tagline of “What is this unknown, powerful enemy?”. It’s also suppoused to take place shortly after the defeat of Buu/Boo, like I said, this could be a GT lead-in.

Hazy, I know exactly what you are saying. I remember being 4 years old and just getting done with watching the latest DBZ, and saying how excited I was for the next one, so I’d run outside and start playing DBZ and pretending the tree was Vegeta. Haha.
Can not WAIT for this special. I want to see how much they’ve improved the graphics for this.

I honestly do believe Toriyama made DBZ as long as it was(manga wise, as obviously he has little control over the anime’s episode count) soley for the money. Remember the manga was soley called DragonBall, no Z, although the anime, and domestic release of the manga were later titled “Z”. And the story telling in the Frieza saga seemed to be building up for the grand series finale, as it tried to tie up many loose ends. And actually, I probably would have liked the Z anime a lot more had it ended there. Because honestly, Z is my least favourite part of this franchise.
There are inconsistancies in this poster, as if it’s post-Boo/Buu, why doesn’t Kurrin/Krillin have hair? I understand he could shave it off, but still.

Daimao your a idiot. His wife begged him to DBZ not money. And when the Frieza saga ended she wanted him to do more. DBZ Was what made the whole series blow up bigger than DB did ( not saying that Dragon Ball Z was better than DB, god forbid) You can go down to any school perfabley high school since nowa’days the new generation thinks Sponge Bob is the shit) and say “do you remember or have you heard of Dragon Ball Z?” I can almost guarantee you they will all say yes, then ask them “you ever heard of just Dragon Ball, no Z.” Some might know but I can guarantee most will not.” Saying that you would have liked Dragon Ball Z more if it had ended at the Frieza sage has got to be the most drool, sad, and stupid thing that I have ever read. Dragon Ball Z has done a great deal of help to the entire franchise. I was 5 when I started watching Dragon Ball Z and never knew that there was a Dragon Ball show until I was 9, and even then I would say Dragon Ball Z is way better than Dragon Ball. (But seeing that I was 5 and am now 15 I do not think that any more.). My point is that not one part of the ENTIRE franchise is bad….except GT, makes me want to punch babies.
I suppose you liked GT. I bet you did. 
Oh yes, it doesn’t have to be consistent. ITS FUCKING DRAGON BALL Z. Goku could have shaved his head and it “would not have made a bit of different guys.” (hope some of you got that pun) There are tons of mistakes.

@Jeff: I thought Toriyama did it because the fans wanted more. I know he stopped doing it because it was taking up his whole life and that he wanted to spend more time with his family so after Buu, I think he couldn’t take it anymore.
I just wish they didn’t force him to put out a new chapter once a week, he might not have quit if it weren’t for that. Oh well, at least we have this special coming up as well as Dragon Ball Online. I wonder if this is a backstory to what’s to come in DBO.

I apologize Daimao, I now realize I’m the idiot. Dbz would have been more epic had it ended at the frieza saga. After that the characters powers seem to have been somewhat downplayed, the series has a few cool new characters and villains but seriously loses its epicness and originality (more ssj levels and multi-form villains). But yeah the story structure seemed to have been less creative and adventurous after the frieza saga, it was more focused on power struggle.
Not too say i didn’t enjoy the Cell and Buu sagas, I really did. But you’re right, DBZ would have been better had it ended at the Frieza saga.
lol, oh boy, it seems like I’m the one who had failed in my last post. Good thing i now know the errors of my ways.

Daimao, that was the whole point of those sagas. They were emphasizing on Goku’s power compared to the rest. The cell and Buu sagas were needed, because there was no real ending to it without the Buu saga. And why does everyone say GT sucked?! It wasn’t that bad, granted it wasn’t as good as DBZ. I remember every week, I used to change it to the International Channel to watch the Japanese version, and when I saw SSJ-4 Goku, I thought that was the coolest thing since the invention of the Lite-Brite.

Sorry Jeff that you would believe that I would take your name and pretend to be you. Honestly that wasn’t me. My IP address can attest to being different from that person. Besides, I’m not a nine year-old and can handle my own in arguments.
I did like GT, and the original(which I knew before “Z” thanks to FUNi’s Syndication of the original 13 episodes) more so than DragonBall Z. Want to know why? The story never became terribley redundant, overplayed, and overdone. Z’s plot became as predictable as a Pokemon episode.
Another reason why I liked the others more so than Z, was because I’m more so a fan of adventure, than people getting punched in the face 35,000 times.
And I think you need to rewatch the Frieza saga. If you rewatch it you would notice the fact the story seemed to be moving to it’s grand finale. Characters were killed, Goku became the Legend, leaving a predecessor behind who proved himself, while at the same time defeating the ultimate evil(at that time), Freeza. Everything seemed to be heading for the end. But then we got that whole “He survived by jumping into a ship, and flying it, despite the fact he has next to no motor skills(this would be remedied in the Android/Cell Saga) at all!”. Seemed half assed, imo.
That being said, I did enjoy the following sagas, but no where near as much as I did durring the Sayian, and Freeza sagas. Simply because the show became so repititive. Again, I enjoyed elements from those sagas, like fusion, and the origins of the androids/cell. And boy I would be lying if I didn’t enjoy the two TV specials, both of which were after the Freeza saga.
What I am saying is that I think people would’ve enjoyed Z more had it ended there. People would’ve been clamoring for more, rather than being given it the week after. I also think people would have held it in higher regard, instead of making fun of it with jokes like, “How many DBZ character does it take to change a light bulb?”, “One, but it’ll take him 45 episodes just to take the bulb out of the box”. Although to be fair, that’s more to do with pacing.
And FYI- For this stupid little accusation of me pretending to be Jeff, I’ll be making my account now.

I’d have to agree with jeff for the most part about the downhill slope after the freeza saga. I don’t completly agree with the creativity aspect of what you said.
It was still as creative as ever. It’s just that the story quality and attention to detail that was starting to lack. The entire series after freeza was not entirely based on a power struggle. That was just the main focus throughout the cell saga; (Which was one of my favorite sagas) It was a different focus and gave a different feel to the show. In my opinion; the focus on something new is a creative take.
Well like i was saying its just the story quality. A prime exampe would be during the buu saga. Which was probably the most creative saga of them all but the most inconsistant with powers and the focus personalities and their interactions was very different from the type of z i had grown to love.

Daimao, yes the series did become anti- climactic. But only after the cell saga. not after freeza. It started with gohan’s secret abilites. That was alluded to thourghout the series and had been completely developed at the end of cell. And with the death of his father should have been the end. Thats when i felt the series came full circle. After that point it did become redundant and anti-climactic.
You do bring a good point with the whole goku escaping namek. but you liked GT and GT was entirely filled with inconsistancies like that. In refrences to characters like pan in certain fight scenes and the down playing and changes in almost everyone’s strengths and personas. If you can let that slide then goku escaping should not bother you at all.

You know honestly Dragon Ball should have ended with Goku turning Super Saiyan and defeating Freeza. It was such an epic moment, that no other moment in Dragon Ball can really top, I don’t think. Pretty much after the birth of the Super Saiyan, all the other charcters became useless punching bags.
I was really excited about the Android saga and was really into it, but then when cell was introduced and it turned into a tournament, just didn’t work for me. The androids had so much potential and it was changed into a hyperbolic time chamber fest and a pointless fusion with Kami.
I would of liked it better if it turned into a survial story like Future Trunks time, but without everyone dying of course. (Well maybe the Death of Goku to send Gohan rage into Super Saiyan.) But I still loved when Vegeta told his story on how he became a super saiyan.
Anyways can’t wait for this Special. It should rock!

Plot
Based on an original concept by the original author Akira Toriyama, the story puts Goku and his friends against a new, powerful enemy.

DBZ to me should have ended after the Cell Saga…i think the Cell Saga was actually pretty good. The Buu saga shouldnt have happened…waaaay too long…too stupid…too…just…weird. DBZ needed a super HUMAN character in it (and no not a reincarnation of Buu). And to explain the reasons in different levels of super saiyan……perhaps none of them have actually reached true super saiyan. This is just an idea i mean. Have it to where a saiyan has to go through levels of power to reach actual Super Saiyan. Could be some new form we’ve never seen before. Just an idea. Oozaru form was also downplayed as well. Imagine Freiza fighting Oozaru Gohan or something? BTW…goku and vegeta’s tails never grew back…gohan’s tail grew back….something to think about.

Uhhhh… DBZ was alot better than DB. I feel like falling asleep watching some of the DB episodes. The action is much better in DBZ but if you feel like walking through the jungle looking for dragonballs is more entertaining than fast action fighting then ok.

i think this is the thing they showed on a huge panaramic screen. it was really kick ass lookin. it had 2 screens on top of each other. one was of the sky and shit and the other was stuff that was on the ground. looked pretty bad ass. if you like that kind of stuff look up a game called “Battle Stadium D.O.N.” on youtube. its a supersmash bros type game with naruto, dragonball, and one piece chars. the vids for it are pretty funny. rock lee from naruto trying to do a special beam cannon, gohan doing hand signs, and some fat ass dude from one piece eating stuff with buu….. pretty funny shit.

ok i should mention this, its a gamecube game that only got released in japan. that and if you watched the vid, goku would have owned all of there asses with a kamehameha lol. but just think of the merge of dragonballz….. gogeta+shadow clone+instant bigbangkamehameha=splunch!!

Launch was in DB all the way to the end…
She doesn’t appear in the american release of DBZ at all, except in the new remastered ones (only seasons 1-5 out so far) She is frequently in the Saiyan saga. Mostly following Tien around crushing on him (There was a lot taken out of the beginning of the american release… as in entire episodes)
Then she appears last I saw in a bar during the fight with Vegeta.
It definatly looks like they were trying to write her out smoothely and then gave up.

i got sesson 1-3 of dbz.of the remastered the only thing i don`t like about it is i was so use to the american music and now they put in the japan music im not to fond of that.

Gizzy, it really isn’t the action that most people look at. I like Dragonball better than DragonballZ because it’s got a much more developed story with a pretty good ending. It’s more realistic than DragonballZ, as well, but still has a vast amount of imagination.

I thought the new saiyan ( if that is what he is) looked more like gohan tbh!
Plus yeah DBZ Frieza saga was the orignal ending and from the start of DB to the Frieza saga is he most fluid story as all of Dragonball/Z seem to lead up to Goku epic battle agaisnt Frieza !! I think DBZ should have done what Mrvel/Dc do, Kame a multiverse !! that would be awsome, so maybe see what happens if when Goku beat Frieza he turned Just like Frieza, the super saiayn transformation jogging his memory and truely unleashing KAKAROT THE SUPER SAIAYN on the universe!! a DBZ multiverse wud be awsome !!
But in saying that i love Buu the thought of a guy who nearly destroyed the universe before gouk and the others where even born, a guy who killed th heighest ranking gods in the universe is pretty fukign cool !! Cell was kind of a cool idea too, a clon eof goku vegeta frieza etcc as an enemy is pretty badass!!
Dotn get me wrong even GT had some good ideas, but i think Baby should have been between cell and Buu since cel was a human creation and baby was an alien creation, but i never saw baby above buu power wise !! and the Dragons???? awsome idea havignt he final battle agaisnt the Z fighters ultimate ally, turned bad, the 7 dragon gods cud hav been awsome….. only Omega and Nova where really any good. btu it annoys me when the makers completely underestamte DBZ character strength, Goku struggaling to hold up a sky scraper ????? at Ssj4 Goku shud have been moving planets like pre-crisis superman !!!

The Baby Saga was hella cool. I love the battle between them and when Goku went Super Saiyan 4, I was all, “Oh shit!”
And I think that’s right, BradBalboa, but I guess they thought it would exaggerate his power, and I am so f**king sick of people comparing Goku to Superman. THERE IS NO COMPARISON! SUPERMAN WOULD DIE WITH A FLICK IN THE NOSE!!!
The Baby Saga and the Shadow Dragons were the best of GT. The Best of Z to me was the Saiyan and Frieza Saga. The best of Dragonball were the Tournament and Piccolo Sagas.

I hadnt heard much of jap music until we bought the DVD sets (i have season 6 on preorder LOL) but ive grown so used to it.. i love watching the authenticness of it… and yeah, i know thats not a word.
I grew up on the american music, and some eps i just have to watch the american music, like whenever a character goes SSJ… awesome.

the jap music makes it feel like its really from the 80s and early 90s… the american music makes it feel very new… i dont enjoy as much as i thought i did.
the american music makes me feel like im back in middle school. What a fun nostalgic feeling. LOL

I love how none of you think that the child in the picture that looks like Vegeta, could be Vegeta Jr. from the last episode of GT. While it probably isn’t, it’s more logically then saying it’s Vegeta’s nephew, which makes no sense, since there was never a mention of a brother.
In all likelyhood this could be a time travelling adventure since we have a lot of characters out of place, you know, we have Kabitoshin, which means Buu saga, yet Krillin has hair. Or it could be four seperate vignettes that tell out a larger story.
And no, this isn’t that multi tv panel show in Japan, that was a DragonBall and One Piece crossover for a Japanese amusement park. This is for Jump Festa, which is a gathering dedicated to works from the Jump line of manga in Japan. It just so happens that this year the flagship magazine, Weekly Shonen Jump is turning 40 so in celebration some of it’s most popular manga are getting specials.
This is also why this feature is titled “DragonBall” instead of “Z” or “GT”, those are the anime’s titles, in the manga in Japan, from Chapter #1 all the way to the end of Buu was titled DragonBall, the anime however was titled “Z” from the start of the Sayian Saga, when the manga was brought over to North America, to tie into the anime Viz Media renamed the corresponding chapters “DragonBall Z”. Since this festival is based upon manga, it makes sense that in Japan this wouldn’t be called “DragonBall Z”.
As well, apparently FUNimation is interested in bringing this over. Now if only we could get them to bring over “The Plan To Eradicate The Sayians” as well as the PSA episodes :p

I think it totally resembles vegeta, but, he doesnt really have the hair line… and the pointy hair.. id like to see a better picture of this saiyan child.
In the wiki desc. it says “new saiyan character VAGUELY resembling Vegeta”
So even the official desc. says its only a vague resemblance. Interesting i think.
That one character in the Tree of Might, Turles, looked EXACTLY like Goku
, and was in no way related… Right? I havent seen it for ages.. but i dont think he was related…
So yes it could look like vegeta, but in no way could be related.. maybe lots of saiyans look a lot.. who knows.

I wonder how the animation for this thing will look?
I wanna see if there’ll be a teaser or commercial for it that airs in japan. Probably. And actually, the manga was entitled “DragonballZ” from that point. It says in Katakana for the manga, “Doragon Boru Zetto,” which is DragonballZ.
Also, if VIZ were trying to keep it tied into the FUNImation dub, why is it that Master Roshi is called ‘Kame-sennin” or “Muten Roshi” instead? And why is Krillin spelled, “Kuririn?” Just curious. Also, in the VIZ translation, Launch’s name is “Lunch.” Kinda thought that was interesting.
