DBMB’s very own forum member Wasinthemovie (great name, huh?) says he was on the Dragonball set during the Mexico City filming. He makes some interesting claims about the film, and has a photo or two to back up his claims.
Here’s what he has to say:
I just listened to your latest podcast, the first one I’ve heard, and while I admire you’re optimism regarding the writing in my opinion it will be fairly shallow.
******SPOILER ALERT******
One of the first scenes we shot was Goku’s bike getting trashed by Texas Battles character “Carey Fuller’s” car. Chatwin says in an adolescent voice “Dude my Bike!”, to which Texas looks over at his friend and responds, “Did you just fart?”So if that sounds like quality writing, then I guess it’ll be ok. Most of the dialog for the first 6 days follow this kind of teenage drivel…
I was lucky enough to be in the movie so I can only pray they didn’t cut me out of anything, I’m a huge fan so I am very grateful I was able to be in the film but from a critical fan’s point of view I’m going to hate at LEAST the opening scenes dialog, because I, and others, were cringing on set….
Anyway, I also have photo’s on set, I can probably get others, cause we were all taking them, especially of props, like Goku’s bike, etc….

The dialogue doesn’t worry me too much. Remember the cartoon was full of cheesy slap-stick humor. I’m sure that’s what they were aiming for. Hopefully it is off-set with some great action.
The comment about the trance, does that mean possible giant ape transformation?

Worst Line EVER! Man i have high hopes for this movie but everything seems to be going downhill. I wish someone other than Fox got the rights to this movie. Well maybe if we hear nothing but bad news then go to see it with low hopes it will be better than we thought

I think the fart line is bogus… But… Watch Kung Fu Hustle (Stephen Chow). Many similar bogus lines are relatively well pulled off.
And I totally agree with Duh Splash EKS. Read the script for the Anime/Manga…. WAY worse than that.
Stuff like Roshi’s nose bleeds? As long as that isn’t in, I’m cool.
Honestly, when was the last time anyone watched dragonball? Dialogue absolutely sucks…

You know what now that I think about it that wasnt too off. I mean its like what Duh Splash EKS said there was a lot of crude humor in te show, when Bulma, Yamcha, Roshi, 18#, and who ever else went looking for the Dragon Balls to bring back all the people Majin Vegeta killed at the stadium Roshi let one rip. Or when Goku was at muscle tower and met with ( correct me if im wrong) morusaki, I beleve that there was some crude joke about how it smelled wierd in his bathroom.
Lets just hope that this kind of dialouge isnt in the majority ofthe movie.

Goku gets in trance just by looking at the Moon? kinda irritating, since it’s some Radiation normally that turns his Race into the Oozaru-Form.
That’s actually a little more like in the Anime (Renkin San-Kyuu)Magical Pokaan, where Liru, the Werewolf even turns into Wolf(cough-more like Puppy-Cough)-Mode by seeing Round-shaped Objects like a CD.

I just wonder what people were expecting. It’s a movie that will most definately be directed to teens. Dragonball was never something completely serious, that’s the point.
That, and this sounds like a disgruntled extra. He may have been there for 6 days of filming, but that could amount to what, 10 minutes of the film?
Considering what we know, the high school stuff will take up the very beginning of the movie, and then that’s it. There is no reason to get bent out of shape over a line. And, to that end, you’re not hearing the line delivered, you’re reading it. There’s something to say for timing/line delivery.

Well, I’vce just seen somje False-Parking-Ticket-Listing on TV, and I’ve came to a rather interesting Question:
Will there be Capsules in Dragonball?
Let’s think about it, they were pretty often used in Dragonball, and I remember seeing one Class-Scene, where someone said something like “…And that#s the reason why a Capsule couldn’t be stored in annother Capsule.
Well, I hope that the Capsules will be used in the Movie too, aas Bulma is the Daughter of the Inventor, being able to construct these devices too.
Also those would make it really easy to get a Vehicle into a Scene, without having to drive it there.

I just want to state, since I forgot to in the last post, that I in no way think this guy is lying. I’m just not entirely sure his motivation is completely objective, and that he witnessed enough to make a judgement call on whether the movie will be good or not.
From the podcast, it seems they canged a lot, and the school stuff is such a minimal portion of the film, they got through it rather quickly.

Seriously you guys make for a very interesting read. All the different personas represented on here is very entertaining. I’ve never written to anything like this before but after reading these blogs since this site came up, I just had to comment on some things: The personalities on here is as follows, The “Dark cloud its doomed from the start so why even try” personality, The “optimistic everything is going to be fine” persona,and the “I know it all before I know it” persona. We are all individuals with different personalities but its obvious we all have passion for the film which is good. The plain and simple reality is that NONE of us will know how good the movie is until we see it. And even then, our opinions will differ. You guys keep up the post though, like I said very interesting.

it seems like the director has no intention of being true to the series, this film is called ‘dragon ball’ but it’s not just about the first series. it’s definitely not going to be accurate, i’ve already given up on that. the question is, how much of a ‘family’ movie is it going to be?

Lets all just keep our fingers crossed that they respect the original storyline more than everyone says they are…..ive always loved DBZ and it makes me mad that someone may try and change it to make it more Hollywood appropriate.. come on it did fine without the teenage drama and crazy stuff!

but i just realised its a mini plot hole. I mean i thought that the bluz-something waves reflected from the full moon were just right so the saiyan tail would react and then transform… But i guess he doesn’t have a tail in the movie so it doesnt really matter.

if all it took was a picture of the moon why did vegeta have to create an energy ball to transform himself? why not just draw a little picture

Oh dear God, this movie is going to suck…sure, in the Vegeta vid, Bulma made an interesting point…but still…It’s gonna be horible…not to mention the sequals! Oh God…what if in one of the sequals they put Raditz in?! Ew……………………..Sorry, but a live action Raditz would look….just…….
