The internet has been a buzz with the talks of a supposed early draft of Dragonball written by Ben Ramsey. Initially I wasn’t going to post this, but considering the film has gone through several major rewrites since then I’ll give it a shot.

So, what do you think? Is this real? Fake? Good? Bad?
UPDATE: Movieland reported that Fox has supposedly confirmed the leaked script is fake.

Well. I just took a quick look and it seems fake. A hoax if you will. Most manuscripts are run multiple times and thus show some wear and tear. First drafts are never released. I don’t think this is real

a first draft wouldnt be leaked after filming was finished about 5 months ago. and its called dragonball z which is a bad mistake by a faker with too much time on his hands.

A well-written, intricate, 128-page fake? I doubt it. It’s the original draft. A lot has changed since. Would you people stop worrying? Also, apparently none of you have any idea what a good script actually looks like. This is surprisingly decent.

I’m definitely pretty confident that this script is not a fake. It’s not the final script, obviously. But there’s a lot pointing toward it being one of the first drafts.

If this is a fake, it was written by someone with a firm grasp on how first draft screenplays are written. The dialog is weak, but the script itself is well written: good spelling, good grammar, proper formatting…
It could go either way. If it is a fake, it wasn’t slapped together half-assed.

a staff here in my country said that this is the first version of the script … and then changed more .. I think not ….

Wow!! I like how he gets his heart broken in the begging and how DBZ is an anime/video game/card game series. The whole “superior balance of time” at the beginning and the end really tie together well. However, It is has poor formatiing and grammer.
And one more thing…
Krillin is in the movie he just isn’t important yet. Bet that will shut some people up.

Look, I’m reading the same stuff when the last Harry Potter book got leaked like a week early.. People were like “zOMG fakezors no wai jk would write this garbage”.. Then when it came to be true, the very same people looked very stupid… So be patient and lets see what happens..

the format is right and everything but the dramatic scale of it, the cheesy dialogues… it just sucked.
I think it’s obviously a fake.. even though the movie will probably suck as much as this fake does.
oh and… Diego Brazil, I’m from Chile and english is not my mother lenguage, but please learn some frickin’ grammar.

I yust finished reding the whole script.I didnt like it.I consider it horible .Gokus character isn’t portraid right in this script.He isnt the pure hearted and loving goku we all knew but a teen that wants to fit with the rest of the world and feels his granpa ohan is holding him back.He disobeis his granfather and runs to this girls party instead of staying to the birthday party he’a granpa made for him.He doesn’t have his inosence becase he keeps looking at girls all the time(although he is cind of clumsy).altough there are some nice moments with master roshi(his character is okay) Bulma and Yamcha.But This schript as a DRAGONBALL movie is a complete fail…I stil have hope in the movie though because i thing Wong and Chow changed the whole script or the most of it to fit the original anime/manga atmosphere and made the characters as they shoold be(goku kindhaerted and pure).Oh and Diego brazil im from Greece

Anyways, i found the script quite enjoyable. I thought it was a fake just about the time krillin entered. Maybe he is in the film but for like 2 mins? lol…anyways Bulma made me laugh and Yamcha at some parts. Master Roshi seems to be a perv. What about Goku eating? and the fight with goku and piccolo wasnt that long…

Wow man…sheesh…I don’t really know what to say. I just kinda skimmed through the script cause in the possibility that it is real, I don’t want to know what happens even if it is an early version. I want it to be fake though cause were just some things that rubbed me the wrong way immediately. However, who would put that much thought and energy into writing that? I mean, I’m a screenwriter and I love Dragonball but I wouldn’t just type something like that just for the hell of it, cause I know how frustrating it is. Who knows…

Ok just read the whole thing took a (little over 3 hours). And I’ve got to say that if this is the script I’m disappointed… Too much love… Goku is no bumpkin… Namek ninjas… I really, really, really, REALLY, hope that this is better in the final drafts.

Wow. It’s like this was written by a guy who needed to take a shit, but instead decided to hold it while he wrote this script, then once he was finished, he discovered he didn’t need to take a shit anymore, because low and behold the script he had just produced was pure and utter shit!

Too many spelling errors, and even an adaptation wouldn’t go as far as to completely rewrite Goku as this “dorky nerd”. IMO its an elaborate hoax. As many said the “dragonball z” title gives it away.

Same here, after all they said Ben Ramsey did write the original script.
I read the whole thing, it sounds really satisfying already. And its been rewritten and a lot of changes made to it also.
It was cool that Krillin makes a appearance.
I know they replaced all the parts with Emperor Pilaf with Piccolo. Which was good cause Emperor Pilaf is totally annoying. But I know they did change almost 80% or more of the script from what I read.

it doesn’t seem real but who knows. because most of what is in it we said would not happen. for example. the only thing i didn’t understand is that a while back didn’t you tell us that goku was going to die at the end of the story. in this however he just WOOSH flies away.
If it is real its goofy and just the thing hoped not to see.
i’m just really confused now because justin chat win is not a goofy and goku type guy + with this new script they make him very outgoing. same thing aplies to Chow.
i am still still really excited to see it though.

Yeah, absolutely fake, an Oozaru is the Were-Ape-Form of the Sajan Race, and their easiest transformetion.
There’s no way, that the original Piccolo could stand a chance against an Oozaru, nor control that Sajan-form by himself.
But still, the Intro was quite nice in this script.

Hm…seems like most of my thoughts are already shared by other people. So I’ll just throw in my $0.02.
This version of the script was obviously written by someone with no real knowledge of the DB/Z universe. It seems like they might have browsed a few fansites at best. I mean, terms like “Namek-jin” ….honestly. *shakes head in pity* I’m quite an open-minded person, but that’s just outright ignorant. And the way they put Piccolo in at the end….reminds me way too much of Venom. WAY too much.

I read the entire thing and I think it is real. It has the feel of a quicky first-draft script and there are parts where it seems the writer was really putting thought into that scene and parts where it seems he was making filler space to be fixed in the next draft.
Think about it; all of the pictures we’ve seen match so well with this basic storyline and are better put than some fan trying to piece them together. Though there are some changes I hope they made after this draft, it still seems very real. C’mon, Yamcha WAS pretty badass!
Oh, and Randal Duk Kim could be playing Pilaf. Don’t forget that there is no “official” cast or character list.
Other than that, with the few changes I hope they made in the later drafts, I like it.

Kaypain, Namek-jin is just how to say Namekian in Japanese. Same thing with Saiyan being Saiya-jin in Japanese. Why it was said that way in this script randomly, I’ll never know for sure.

Personally I think this is the real deal. Come on, we all know that Ben Ramsey is the one who wrote the Dragonball script, and at the beginning, when one of the major studios wanted to make a live action Dragonball movie, they called the project “Dragonball Z”. I’m an aspiring screenwriter and this really seems like a first draft. The first half of the script is quite good. When I read it I said most of the time like “yeah, this could work on screen.” Then there were scenes where I said “oh, not so much.” What really was annoying to me — ATTENTION! SPOILER! — was that in the script Piccolo showed up for the last ten pages of the script. The last ten minutes of the movie? Come on. That really can’t be. But well, it’s just the first draft, and first drafts tend to, you know… they just tend to suck. Nevertheless, reading the script gives me the hope that they polished the script and rewrote it and rewrote it and made it actually better, so I think the Dragonball movie will be great. That’s all I want to say about it. Thanks.

I’m not sure. Those two new characters Emi and Tito aren’t in it. I know they are changing alot from the show but there’s no mention of Goku going to school either in the script. If this is like the first version the others ones must be totally different.

First of all, just because it says Ben Ramsey at the beginning does not mean he wrote it… ’nuff said… so yeah.
We know there was extensive filming of the World Martial Arts Tournament, but it’s a no show.
Goku is wearing a “white monks outfit,” which we know he doesn’t wear to school (all pictures show street clothes, and the first released pics were of him “at school”)
An… Piccolo dies… we know they are planning on making sequels… and uh… Piccolo is sorta important.
Yeah, it could be a very very early draft, but doesn’t correlate at all with what we know. We haven’t seen anything major yet, so if there was someone cast as Krillin, we would know… even if he has 2 minutes of screen time.
There was a full book fake “leak” that actually looked like a photocopy of the newest Harry Potter book.
Anybody can take time and effort to make a fake. Fan fiction anyone?

Didn’t like a millionen people or so already said that they made changes to the script? It’s a first draft. It’s Ramseys first script of Dragonball. They probably changed a lot of the script before production, because at Fox there might be people who thought that this script is weak and not the Dragonball movie they wanted to make.
What I really hate is that there are a lot of people here who call the script a fake and a fan script. Why do you think that, huh? I think that the writing is pretty okay and it really does read like a script. I bet that most of the real fan scripts would read really badly. Ramsey’s draft was okay. But it’s a first draft and probably really old and not the movie they are shooting, or well shot now. It’s totally wrong to say it’s a fan script just because we have scene photos of scenes that aren’t in the first draft… probably that’s so because they made, well… rewrites?

Fake, real or not or whatever…I don’t care. This was awesome, it had major elements in it that tied perfectly with the actual movie.
If the movie is anywhere as cool and bad ass as this “fake”, “real” fan fiction of a script. I say, “Vegeta! What does the scouter say about his power level?!”

A standard screenplay runs between 90 and 120 pages (1 page per 1 minute of screen time is the industry standard).
Unless you’re George A. Romero, it’s very rare that a script runs 200 pages long.

The major thing that bugs me is the “She was totally badass”"Beat the shit out of it”etc. that show all along the script, is a real script like that, I mean it’s normal when characters speak, but not in narration IMO.

I think the script is real, but was rewrote which i’m very glad, i found this bad, about 40% okay but the rest crap. I mean oolong sucking souls??( harry potter dementors), goku running in and giving Chi-Chi a big kiss with her hanging in his arms,(casablancha style)
then goku not trusting bulma and yamcha and all that how could he ride the nimbus cloud then? There was a lot in this i taught was pointless and some i didn’t mind, i do hope Krillin is in it, even for a few minutes or a cameo, but so far the script i just read doesn’t fly..

well, anonymous, back in the early 2000’s when Ben Ramsey actually WAS hired by Fox to write a screenplay, it was going under the title of Dragonball Z… so… Sorry. I still believe it’s an early draft.

The title WAS Dragonball Z. The story WAS Dragonball as the movie now would be. Soooo….When it was Dragonball Z it would have been Vegeta and Nappa not Pilaf and the coming of Piccolo.

I think it’s fake.
I don’t think it’s half bad, but I think it is fake.
If this script was only written recently, then it has to be, because obvious points of the real story are being overlooked, like the absence of a Krillin in the movie (appears for 5 seconds in the script), an absence of Teto in the script (guaranteed to be in the movie) and the absence of other backup extras at Goku’s school. Also: the absence of Oolong, Pilaf and Shou in credible news about the real movie.
…I haven’t been keepin up with the site, so correct me without hesitation if any of this stuff is wrong.

the imbd website lists a bunch of characters that are in the film that arent included in this script… wats up with that?
