Dragonball Set Report

DBMB reader Tallal has provided us with some info from the Dragonball set. This report is from the Mexico City/High School shoot. This is the filming that took place from late November to mid December before production was moved to Durango.

There were vaious scenes in the highschool during about the first half of the story. They had 4 groups of differnt extras. The 4 groups were, Outside the school, Inside the school, Goku’s class room, and the hall ways. There were about a good 20 people in each shot. The scene he was in was the outside of the school. This was the first shot they show of the school, Goku was walking in down the street to get to school. He crossed the road, and got to the school. The first few promotional pics were for that scene. How ever there was speculation going around that there was a car crash… there was no car crash in that scene. Either they added it in later I dont no but that was the scene. 

Working with the crew was amazing, even though I was only there for 2 weeks I got to meet Justin Chatwin. He was soo comitted to getting Goku right. He, in my opinion, took this movie more seriously then anyone else. James wong was a great director, he just basiclly told us what to do and we all just went and did that scene. I was surprised that for 1 of the scenes there were quite a few blocking mistakes but he decided that the scene was all right. It felt a bit rushed through out those 2 days because we managed to cram in almost 20 scenes in 1 day. Everyone was in a constant rush. I didnt get too meet any other cast member personally other than Justin. I did see James Marsters but I didnt see Emmy any where. James Marsters was another one of the guys who made sure he gave 100 %. I cant say much about the sets because it would be breaking my agreement. But I can say that the sets that I saw were astonishing. It felt like these sets took years to make, but in fact it only took a few months. Everything felt like it was in the right place at the right time. The extras were also used as extras in the tournament. We were the audience. They just basically told us that go crazy. Yell as loud as you can!

The promoting of the film wont start for a while. We were told that about late October to mid November we can see a teaser trailer, but hopefully it will come out before. This movie has alot of surprises that no one would ever expect. Working in James Wong’s adaptaion of Dragonball was amazing, and I cant wait to see this movie when it comes out next April.

    What about the part where the bullies come out and Chatwin appears to be hiding behind a car with his backback on the ground next to those bullies? That was the exact same scene Tallal was talking about, but he never mentioned it. He just said Chatwin just walked to the school.

    Fox’s X-Men: The Last Stand debuted in May of 2006. It’s teaser trailer didn’t come out till December, 2005. Dragonball comes out in April, which means, if you go by that math, we may not have a trailer till November.

    Fuck yeah. I knew chatwin cared. He looks in the mirror everyday and sees Goku, so how could he not? Baffles me that the anti-dragonball movie crowd keeps saying he’s not right for the role. SOB was born for it. There’s literally no one else he can play that’d be as spot on.

    this will sound stupid but one of my friends doesnt believe there actually making this movie and despite all the sites and pictures im starting to think hes right! like the way they keep pushing back the release date, barely any official word on it from fox, all these fuzzy low quality fotos but hey i hope im wrong cos i do want to see this film, but it does all seems a little suspicious!!

    I cant wait to see what surprises Jim Wong has in store for movie goers…This update got me more pumped than anything recently. When they say they saw Marsters..did they see him as piccilo or out of costume?

    I gotta vent about something. The script was fake and I get that but it had alot of things in it that worked. Its what i would expect out of a DB film. However theres one thing that gets me. You know how they had the entire Galaxy Quest thing going? like how they had a fictional DB world then it turns out Theyre in the DB world!! With the video games and everything i hated that!!! The movie better not be like that at all… “hey Goku come play DRAGONBALL!!! I’ll be Piccilo!! you can be….. GOKU!!!!!” common that doesn’t work!! Its corny!! would ruin the movie! please noo

    yeah that’s six months of promotion… that sounds right. although i could deal with some promotion earlier :lol: but oh well. and the fact that they have three FX teams working on a year of post-production makes me so very pleasantly faithful in this film. its gonna rock! i just cant wait for the next film to roll around so i can go audition for something. :D

    If you were going to audition which role would you choose to audition for? Dont just pick your favorite character…pick one you think A. You can translate B. who you can relate to. Iwould audition for Raditz!!!

    Ah man, October/November, that’s a long ways away. But I guess that is about on schedule for typically movies. I was hoping for a little more with this one. Fox doesn’t seem to think any more about it than any of it’s other films. Understandable I suppose, until they see how many people actually show up. I bet they’ll realize then what they have gotten into.

    Seems like more people are starting to learn about the film now though. More and more commenters everyday.

    And ATX, I would be a perfect fit for Goku. You should see my “Goku Hair”, much better than Chatwin’s. Now if I could only get the Kamehameha down, and probably some more muscles too.

    This proves my previous statment before, Ben Ramsey script is truthfull, Goku going to class, school hallway and bulies, come on Ben Ramsey script has all of this in it. Now if it has the same dialogue I doubt it but the ideas will be the same. This movie will be descent and the guy said their will be some surprises I don’t know guys I smell a success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    it mean that he scripts seem real it was said to be a fake and was not a script that will be used for the movie. But all the thing tha script has seem to fit pretty well with the seems to be in the movie and seriously i would really mind if it was. i really injoyed reading the “fake” script.

    Anonymous, why don’t you use a name instead of being anonymous? If you have read my post in the past I said some things will change but the essence that is Dragonball will be chaptured in the film. Goku going to school is a minor thing, now if you were talking about not being able to fly or throw energy blast then you can say they are not being truthfull. So next time come at me correct before you decide to call someone out pimp!

    Yeah, this really doesn’t surprise me about the trailer not coming out until October/November when it comes to Fox. For instance, I’m still waiting for a trailer for Max Payne and that comes out this October.

    Fox is so slow. :(

    Yep, I once heard that the only person that could ever conceive the idea of someone attending school was Ben Ramsey… Since Goku apparently goes to school in the movie (which we knew for months before that bogus script came out) The entire script must be true…

    We are not saying that the movie will reflect the whole Ben Ramsey script, we are saying that some of the things in the script will be the same “barashin”, it is eveident because the whole wWrld Turnement scene is not in the script so everything is not the same but some is, so it lets you know that the script from Ben Ramsey has a lot of truth to it.

    Well tell me what you have seen out of all the pictures and comments dating back in December? It gives evidence to the script!! Not EVERYTHING will be in it like I said before but a lot of things just go back and look at the old pictures and read the script again! Maybe not the same scene but the idea is still their just a little different, which is true because scripts change all the time! Words scaniros etc…. But the idea still remains the same. So “barashin” go back and review those things before you make a comment!!!!

    I heard on another Dragonball website that……this movie will be like the power rangers ninja force. All hope I have for this movie just went down the drain due to that. This movie ain’t for teens or other ages. Just for little snott nose kids. I ain’t seeing this movie now. Maybe over the computer thats all. First PG and now power rangers!? SCREW YOU FOX!

    Cloud Strife gives more infos…He has to check it, but normally there are real. He has a contact who says to him things about the movie every saturday.

    - Master Roshi wont be bald.
    - It should have a flash-back scene were Granpa Gohan fing baby Goku
    - Very bad new: Cloud asks to his contact what will be the style of the movie. His contact anwered him: a story and the way they play their role style Power Rangers Ninja Storm!

    look some parts of the script are really tight… i mean Grandpa Gohan fights Oozaroo. But if the entire Galaxy Quest thing is going on or if there are any Dragonball trdaing cards or video games i might have to leave the theater. It would be like that scene from spaceballs where yogurt is selling Spaceballs merchandising lol. It would ruin it for me. DB is a world of its own even in the world of this movie…nobody should know bout a dragonball myth or even know who lord piccilo is.

    LSB… The script was a dragonball script… the only way for it to not be similar would be if they were just doing Pee-Wee’s big adventure… and renaming it “Dragonball”

    none of it has any bearing…

    Yeah… the script was about a guy named Goku… similar to the movie? sure… but it was bogus. can we please get past the script?

    OK……..First…. I am not a HATER! I am far from that..OK, whoever said that! You’re not even important to remember your user name. But it is infact that you are bitching and hating because you always have something negitive to say!!! Anyways…..We can get past the script but the fact is we will be comparing the movie when it comes out with the script just remember that!…..Also I have been a Dragonball, Z, GT fan since 95 or 96, and have most of the episodes,so I am no HATER! But I hate HATERS myself who critisize the movie for every little peace of info that comes out! Look at all the other superhero movies that have came out none of them are completly faithfull to the comic or cartoon! But hay….they were still successfull very successfull. So all I’m saying is just give the movie a chance just don’t critisize it because it’s not going the way you might think it should go!……Hell I feel the same way….but I’m not going to critisize it, be happy they are making the movie(which I think you are) and just roll with punches!!!

    On-topic, set report seems pretty intense, but I still have a thing with them “rushing the film”, that quote’s come up a few times in different reports…

    Hmmm… at first I was excited to hear that there was actually going to be a DB movie. I nearly wet my self. But then I heard of the cast. :( All of my hopes for this movie has gone out o0f the window. When I heard that Justin Chatwin was going to play goku my hopes for this dropped even more. and it continued to drop when I heard of the school and bully thing. :x WTF goku is not afraid of any thing. I continued to read on in spite of my emotions at the time, and thought well maybe it won’t be so bad maybe i can live with it, if justin bulks up a bit and learns some kick ass moves. and maybe he’s the younger less muscular version of goku. :| ok I can live with that. And I like that he is trying hard to get goku right. :lol: but when I heard that the film is going to be rated pg!! :x :x and that they rushed:evil: WTF!!! Dam it if that is so then I’ll walk out of the theater and demand my money back from fox them selves. :evil: :mrgreen:

    If I cud be in charge of making this movie it wud be a Dragon ball Z adaptation of the Saiyan Saga. everyone beside Marsters and Rossum wud be gone and Rossum wud play Chi chi and Marsters wud stil be Piccolo.
