Loading ...Ernie Hudson’s Role Revealed?
DBMB Forum member Qwailo attended London Expo 2008 where he got the chance to talk to Ernie Hudson. Here is was Qwailo says Ernie revealed to him:
I don’t know if this has been posted before, so im sorry if it has. I spoke to Ernie Hudson yesterday at the London Expo 2008 and basically he confirmed to me that his character is Master Mutaito. He said “I play a monk, who is Chow Yun Fat’s character’s master and he creates the jar that is used contain/trap piccolo”.

I don’t believe he is actually playing the character mutaito. I still think he’s playing either Kami ( in disguise ) or some sort of replacement for korin. Just becuase he’s the one who comes up with the jar and is mutenroshi’s master, doesn’t mean he’s mutaito. Look at how much they’ve changed already. Hell, he could be mutaito- korin- and kami all rolled into one. We still don’t really know for sure.

As annoying as alot of this secrecy is…im glad FOX is being hush hush about it…and i hope they will be for months to come…well i mean id like some info revealed over the months but i dont want too much revealed you know? like the transformers movie. dont show too much of the action…dont show too many scenes over a second or two…i really want this movie to be good…but i have this sneaking suspicion its gonna suck…the ONLY way this movie is going to be grand and really hit the public like we all want it to its going to have to be emotional…wether you like emotional or not…it sells BIG TIME…like Titanic or Armageddon…im sure its gonna have great action, good comedy, decent plot…but if its emotional and has a snappy script…it will go down as at least a 3 star if not a 4 star movie

Its not hard he is playing Master Mutaito, it would make less since for him to play Kami/Korin/Mutaito. Because Master Mutaito and kami have absolutly not connection to each other. and to play all three would be just plain confusing. What there probably doing is going into the past like in the manga showing Mutaito training and his school being attact my piccolo then Mutaito putting him in the prison while see the shot of Chow yun-fat as young roshi(as seen in the pictures). As for the other photos those dont prove that goku meets Mutaito there just set photos.

It’s good to hear that Mutaito is in the film…but, no offence to anyone, ….WHY BLACK?! Master Mutaito is clearly white, so why give the role to a black actor. Not that I’m questioning his acting tallents, (loved him in Ghost Busters), but people, come on!
He Could have been a perfect Mr. Popo (bit tall but non the less)…but why Mutaito?!

Hey Hinkle, not disproveing your idea of how thats going to work (I think is spot on) but why is Roshi wearing his Hawiian shirt? I’m sure he didnt wear that or anything close to that when he was younger. And it doesnt seem to make sence for Chow to wear it in this supposed flashback. I hope you see what I mean.

Muitato doesn’t play a large role at all in the DB series, he’s only their for a few minutes in a flashback, so it’s not a big deal he is black.
Ernie’s a great actor, i think he’ll do the role well.

Man…..Master Mutaito….what are we talking about…..such a non-information! Sorry for being a prick to you all but this is not important……come with some real info please, many useless posts lately….
Oyeah why is everybody so happy with all the pictures of Goku, Chi-Chi, Master Roshi etc…..I´m so dissapointed but am I the only one here or what? I see alot of ´happy´ posts here on the forum…I can´t understand that because the characters don´t remind me of the cartoon characters, only Bulma does..too bad…we better all should whine so they come with a good or better product of db the movie!

Amsterdam, if you want to see figures that remind you of the cartoon characters, go watch the cartoon. Those characters, for the most part, are drawn in a way that is nearly physically impossible for any human being to obtain. A small but worthwhile example is the way Goku’s hair looks in the cartoon. Do you realize how much gel would have to be used to come even close to that type of hair. The REAL LIFE adaptation Fox is creating is one that is more BELIEVABLE than just a complete recreation of the cartoon.

But who know that just my though and i think it would work. but as far as the Kami Korin thing that kinda outrageous. Come one if ernie was kami would he look like piccolo. and even if he was in a human form that really wouldn’t make much since.

sorry for the double post but. Imagen the Epics since in the movie were Roshi and all the other students and Muitato are all battling against piccolo in a flash back drak skies lightning come one that would rock even him his character is small Muitato was a big part of what piccolo was and why he was so pissed off get out. so i think hell yeah this character would work.
Another thing, some of you fans are complaining about them not doing little details like hair but when they finaly give you little detail about the story you say that the detail is to small then y is the hair and issue, its a little detail. Al i’m saying is that this detial will be epic and was a part in the story of piccolo so we know that there is at least so bit of the Original story that hold true im guessing there is alot more but thats me.

Clearly white? Like most of the characters in DB, Master Mutaito is most likely asian. The only characters I ever saw as white were Bulma and her family. I’m not saying a white guy can’t be a martial arts master, but considering the Fantasy-Japan setting of DB, It just stands to reason that a character named Master Mutaito would be asian.
As far as Ernie Hudson is concerned, I’m HAPPY AS HELL that he’s not playing Popo. I, in no shape of from, was looking forward to seeing Hudson in modern-day black-face. Even if he didn’t look that way in the movie, the fact that he’d be playing him in any form would have infuriated me.
It absolutely makes me sick that as soon as people hear of a black actor being cast, Popo is the first character to come to mind. I know I”m at risk of sounding like on of those overly sensitive people always shouting “racist”, but you simply can’t ignore the history behind Popo’s design.

Absolutely agree. It was worse when Texas Battle was cast. . .
As for Ernie.. well, it’s obvious he is playing a character that is based on Mutaito. Will his name be Mutaito? I doubt it. All things considered, Mutaito is a very Japanese name (Mu-Ta-I-To). I think Sifu Norris is the likely name for his character.

I am glad that they are keeping the master roshi piccolo back story. As they where changing a lot of suff I just thought that the would ignore master roshi’s back story. But i am glad in regarsrds of that. I loved that story. I do not even care if he does not look like him. I rather have it that way to not include him at all. Now… Who is playing young master roshi?

Well it could be, but ernie’s clothing looks from the far east. So if they gave him that attire, they might as well name him Mutaito.

About the racial thing with Ernie, he is black and so is PoPo and when they said he was some sort of Temple boy it was a very, very safe bet that he was in fact PoPo. Its not racist its just that it makes sense.

so many mistakes, first of all goku going to highschool,no krillin,yamcha looking like a member of a boy band, roshi with hair and now this….this guy huson hasnt been n a film since the late 80s and the whole mutaito korin kami mixture does not surprise me after all…i love dragon ball, i am a big fan, iwant this movie to be good but this looks very very bad

Been watching the blog for a while, and finally decided to comment.
First, I gotta say, some of you people are a little freaky. Chill, this ain’t that big of a deal. Dragonball is cool, but it ain’t life. And some of you people don’t seem to realize that there were hundreds of Dragonball episodes before the Z ever came around. Y’all need to watch a little more of the Kid Goku adventures to get the concept behind this first movie.
That being said, your input is well monitored by Fox. So your comments really do matter. Though, since filming is over, your happiness or disappointment with the casting doesn’t matter. It won’t change, even though Chatwin is a little skinny for what I would imagine a real Goku to be (hair looks good though). What really matters are the effects, energy blasts and fighting, and slapstick humor. That’s what Dragoball really is.
Now about Hudson, he’s definitely Mutaito. dbthemovie.com had a link to youtube.com vid showing the Mutaito/Piccilo battle flashback which ended in Piccilo being locked in a jar. I would suggest people go to dbthemovie.com to hit the link, but that site appears to be having financial troubles right now. Try going to youtube.com and search for Mutaito deafeats Piccolo. There you will find your answers about Mutaito/Hudson.
Lastly, why hasn’t anyone said anything about the rendering of the Dragonball in the promo pics. I love that they made them energy balls as opposed to giant marbles. Makes sense that the balls are made of energy, and looks tight. What will a kamehameha look like?

I think that he’ll be playing Kami. But I think that in this adapation Kami will take Master Mutaito of performing the Curse that put Piccolo in his jar. It makes sense for Kami to do that because it is the only way to stop Piccolo without killing himself, since they’re fates are linked, and it’ll be one less character to introduce.

I think he will play Kami as well. he seems perfect for the role. We need Kami in this movie and unless FOX are keeping him a secret then he’s gotta be Kami!! Without Kami there couldnt be the Dragonballs! lol

Madix, using the Mafuba traps the target in whatever the user is trying to trap the target in. However, it kills the person who uses it. If Kami used it, they’d both be dead.
…However, since they’re changing the whole story anyway, I wouldn’t be surprised if they took away the whole “whoever uses the Mafuba dies” consequence.
Now please go read the manga so we won’t have people mistaking this movie as the official canon story to Dragon Ball, which it isn’t.

lol, you sure Mutaito is clearly white? He looks Japanese to me and his name is clearly Japanese as well. Anyway, I agree with JP, I think they’ll get rid of the Mutaito name and character altogether and replace him with Sifu Norris.

Well, its not the first time a black actor has been chosen for an already established character that has been white. Look at Daredevil and KingPin. KingPin was white all throughout the comics, but then they got Michael Clarke Duncan. So, yea that movie sucked, but I felt MCD did a good job portraying KingPin/Mr Finch
