It’s been a long time coming, and you all have been asking me for this for a while… so here it is! DBMB’s latest podcast. Joining me this time is our very own forum moderators The Original Bamfer and Star. We’ve also got DorkyFresh from the SHH! forums.
In this episode we stuck primarily to discussing the new promo images revealed through the Japanese media. We talk about aspects of the characters shown, from hair to clothing. We also discuss some of the positives and negatives of each revealed character.

he DOES have a Saiyan mohawk. it’s short and combed on the sides and everything else is jutting outwards. his sides are short and the spikes run from the front of his head to the back. there are no spikes on the side of his head…
…hence, a Saiyan mohawk.

Sorry to say but the photos look terrible. the casting of Chi Chi is horrible, Master roshi looks like a lazy safe effort and ‘nothing’ like in the anime, and Chatwin just doesn’t cut it as Goku. Although he looks much better than he did in the newer photos than those early set photos(yikes…)…but still,meh.
On the positive side, i think Emmy looks great as bulma, although her hair is competely wrong ‘and’ not blue……I mean seriously, DB/DBZ is supposed to be fantasy and epic….Instead we’re getting a toaned down x-men-ish type of deal with the characters. I mean i’m an artist and i can’t believe how they messed up the look of the characters…..Yamcha is wearing a leather jacket,shades and has blonde streaks?…ugh. They really could of pulled off the exact same look that the cartoon dished out, but instead they took a more safe watered down and different route which is cowardly.
Tis’ a shame, I mean something like DBZ should get an epic treatement, like Lord of the Rings for example.
Anyways,everbody who is actually is impressed with these photos definitly has low standards or is just too excited that a DB movie is finally coming out and is too blind to see how weak it’s looking. As it stands, Speed Racer is probably the best looking Cartoon adaptation to hit the big screen. Negatives aside, it’s still going to make a lot of money…After all, it’s Dragon Ball.
So as it stands.
imo, great casting for Bulma ( besides the crappy hair), and James marsters would make a great Piccolo, although he’s only 5′9, where has Piccolo should be around 6′3. But i’m sure they’ll use some trick photography to make him taller. Anyways, all in all, call me dissapointed. Hell, I know alot of people are, what a way to butcher one the greatest animes of all time.

Bulma actually has a wig– just not to far from what Emmy’s hair actually looks like. The look has grown on me, though I’m not a fan of the no blue hair thing but yanno.

I totalli agree on Waveboys earlier post…..only Bulma is the one that reminds me of the actual DBZ character. Goku, Chi-Chi, Mr Roshi, Yamcha…..such bad casting they did….maybe Chatwins face could be Goku, but he never smiles, his hair is terrible, I want f*cking big Saiyan hair at all sides…..not just the front top! Also he could be alot bigger in muscle size……

Ok great podcast.My thought about the DB movie is that ok its not the story of the episodes which i think its good because you will now what would happen and all and even rate the movie on that.The new story line is a great idea.The only thing is that they HAVE to keep the charcters character the same.lIke the guys and gal said gokous goofiness must be there.And if chatwins hair where a little bigger about 5 or 6cm with the same shape as in the photo i think it would be suberb.i hope the effect are good and not lame.

Do you guys remember that leaked pic of Jamie and Emmy a while back (I think it’s still in the gallery) anyway it shows Jaime with her hair all in an up-do and she’s wearing some kind of work-out clothes.
Anyway since Emmy’s all in her costume in this pic I’m guessing that’s what Chichi’s gonna look like for the tournament at least (they probably took that pic after they were done with a scene or were about to film one)

I think the movie will turn out to be a great successs. Although i see some flaws in these pics, i think you all should be a little more positive in the next podcast.
..And by the way i think jamie chung looks like a pretty good choice for chi-chi, i think the girl in the podcast was hating a little bit.

Why are people complaining that the podcast was ‘too’ negative, they were being real and honest…and i actually thinking they were being slightly generous at times. Anyways, like i said, Emmy as Bulma is the only positive thing that has come out of this movie so far….yet they can’t even get her hair right. What, do they think blue hair isn’t realistic enough? please, DBZ is Fantasy. Emmy would of looked alot better, hell, even some of the the fan art for bulma on this website look better than what they’re dishing out.

Although there are several DB/DBZ/GT fans in the world, Fox is more than likely trying to appeal to a BROADER range of people. The story of Dragonball is fanciful enough without adding a man with a turtle shell or a girl with blue hair. The blue highlight is a good move by Fox, in my opinion, but not because I have “low standards,” but because I can understand where Fox might be coming from.

I agree with anonymous, when your trying to bring an Anime cartoon to real life you wouldn’t want every thing to be exactly the same, because i’ve seen this movie called “Dragonball: the magic begins” and to me, it turned out to be crap. Im just saying that be grateful for the good qualities they have and i dont think they really showed that in the last podcast.(although some things they said were true)

I just want to thank everyone for the feedback.
Sure, some of the views and opinions may have not have been positive. But that’s the great thing about it - not everyone feels the same way about everything, and the Podcast should reflect that.
We definitely had a lot of fun recording. And I’m going to try and talk JP into making a bloopers episode, or something similar, where all the good off-topic, hilarious content can go. It’s definitely worth a listen.

Er, I realise I sounded TOTALLY negative in this podcast. I honestly am really excited for the movie, I just honestly think that they could have done Emmy’s hair way better. Although I realise it can’t be as blue as the manips out there, there are so many different hairstyles they could have given her that would be way better then what she has.
Plus I was REALLY tired when JP wanted to do it, thats why I only raged and hardly talked

I think it’s true that visuals are important, too.. but after watching the Hana Yori Dango Japanese live action drama, I realized it is not entirely essential.
If your not familiar with Hana Yori Dango, there is a character called Domyouji in the original storyline, who is physically tall and powerful, loud, rude, impulsive, very dangerous, as well as passionate.
The actor they chose to portray him was a short, skinny, pretty boy named Jun Matsumoto. Before it aired, everyone thought that he was a terrible choice for the character — based on his appearance. But by the end of the series, everyone applauded him as he THE living Domyouji — based on his performance.
But besides that, I actually think they all look really good. Jamie Chung isn’t ugly, either. D:

I’m glad people are listening, regardless of their thoughts. I really don’t understand why people think we were bashing the film. There’s a difference between criticizing and bashing. Bashing is when someone makes a rudely negative comment without expanding upon it and there were only a few remarks like that in this podcast.
Anyway, the movie has it’s strengths and weaknesses.

I understand you and Adam are rivals and can’t do a podcast together, That’s understandable. but I really enjoyed you and Adam’s podcast way more. Because you guys were like Siskel & Ebert. One person was different from the other and you both made some good inputs and some bad inputs about the movie. You guys did it in a way so people can understand the movie and won’t think nothing bad about the film. You guys first proved you were Dragonball fans before you jump into how much this movie is not going your way. It just seems like the new people was poking at the film the whole time. JP you already proofed your worthiness, but the new people on the podcast didn’t. Some of us don’t know who the heck they are. There were so many cool things that happen this past month. All I heard was bad things said about Chatwin, Emmy, and Joon. The new people on the podcast were Finding the smallest things wrong with the film. If I was Emmy I would be hurt at what that girl on the podcast said. She could of said I really wish Emmy’s hair was blue or something, but instead she was hating on her and hating on my homie Chatwin. She sounded really jealous when she made her opinion.

I think Goku’s hair is almost perfect.
Thats what I would want!
It doesn’t need to spike up all the way around cause Goku’s never really did in the show, you know?
It just Spiked up on one side a little and on the other side it was larger. They made his hair the most they could look like the shows. They made it were it will also look spiked up like that when he turns to the side also. When he turns forward it still has that spiked up from the side going on also just like from the side, which would also be like the show. Cause no matter what direction Goku turns in the show it like is always in the some position. Thats what they did there.

great podcast. really interesting to listen to. thanks. The star girl didnt have one positive comment lol. One part i found interesting was when yall started to kinda brainstorm on the kneeling picture of goku. I believe he is obtaining info so thats why he looks so stupid…(its goku hes trying to undertand it) but anyway remember the ernie hudson pic where he is in front of a table kinda on his knees…well i believe hes talking to goku and that pic of goku kneeling is him listening.(it could be where he is revealing to history of lord piccilo. and emmy is for sure crying in that pic.

HAHAHAHAH. Ok, I just read that people are saying I’m “Jealous” of Jamie Chung. I won’t bash her anymore, since it clearly pisses people off, but WOW. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I just PERSONALLY don’t think that Jamie is attractive at all. So… deal with it.
As for people saying that Emmy would be offended by me talking about her hair, I doubt it. I really don’t think she’d take it personally that I don’t like the wig that the costume designers gave her. I love Emmy, I think she’s gorgeous and a perfect Bulma–> I just don’t love her wig.
I am a huge Dragonball fan, and I’ll try to be more balanced next time I do a podcast. There are things I like about the things we know so far.

i know this is quite picky…but jessica alba died her hair for the fantastic four movies.
it was in an old 17 magazine of mine. Ironically she said that she felt ugly with her hair and wish she had used a wig instead of walking around for months with permanent blonde hair.

This movie is supost to be for wider adiences but when non-fans wach the movie, if they like it dey wont be fans of DB/DBZ/GT they will be fans of theis retarted remak. I completley agree with Waveboy’s long comment about “Butchering one of the greatest Anime of all time” but i think he missed that Goku goes to school now. Krillin is replaced by Teto and Chi Chi can fight now? and why is mutaito black

The podcast wwas way too nice. this movie is gonna suck balls. the movie is for wider audiences but if newbies to the anime like this movie than the wont be DB/DBZ/GT fans, they will be fans of this retarted remak. I agree with Waveboy’s long comment, but he missed that Goku goes to school now and Chi Chi knows how to fight. and why is Mutaiyo black?
