Marsters Says Dragonball Is Faithful
DBthemovie has some info regarding James Marsters at Grand Slam XVI. Most interesting is what he said regarding Piccolos appearance and how the movie reflects the manga.
-They wanted Piccolo to be more beautiful than he wanted to be. The character was in prison for 2000 years, so he should be old, ugly and decrepit. But they went for makeup that was safer and more young and beautiful, so he went to the makeup guy and said, hey, we can add back with paint what they removed from the sculpt because the producers aren’t here, and the director was fighting the same fight, so they made him older again.
-They have changed a few things in Dragonball, but the script reflects the heart of it. So much of Dragonball is about power and unrepentant violence. So much of it relies on post production. He’s in so much trouble - 20th century told him not to talk about it. Oh, but he’s not telling anything about the plot, he’s just saying his experiences as an actor, so they can’t sue him, right?

They can go to hell if they try to sue him for that! My god.. like he said in that interview - it’s nothing we don’t already know. It’s on TV, in video stores, games etc.
Also, if they did try to sue him it might piss him off to where he won’t want anything to do with the sequels because of how shitty the company is being about this.
And I understand they want everything top secret - but jesus! Can’t a guy give us a little insight on what’s to come!?

Thanks James!

Actors tend to say “They’ll have my head if I say anything” when it comes to their projects. It’s nothing new. . .

I don’t know why 20th century are being assholes. But shit man there like don’t say anything or i will cut your balls off.

I can’t remember, but was King Piccollo in prison for 2000 years?
April 14th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Every time I here Marsters talk about this movie he gets me excited about seeing the film. I think its going to be good.
April 14th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Jnas: He was in that rice cooker for a while. I don’t know if they made it common knowledge how long it was, but I think they’ll change that for the movie. It’s probably for the better, if they want a more serious movie… but then again, I can hear the hardcore fans crying about it already http://www.dragonballmovieblog.net/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

April 14th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Jnas & andthenIsaid:
King Piccolo was imprisoned in the rice cooker for roughly 100 years give or take a few decades. Roshi’s Master was the one who put him in the container and Roshi and Crane were there as teenagers-ish.

tHe thing is the turtle Roshi can’t age and the same goes with crane. i forgot why, but it the turtle explains it to goku and bulma at one point
April 14th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
it was at least a 1000 years master roshi is 985 years i think it was stated give or take a few years
April 14th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
Samxsteal is right, Roshi and Crane stopped aging because they drank from a “fountain of youth”-type thing. So Piccolo was actually trapped for like 400-500 years inside the denshi jar.
April 14th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
cool go Marsters!!!!!
April 14th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
Its because Roshi drank from the fountain of longevity or something like that (a water that allows you to live for a long time).
April 14th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
lets hope they release something about the damnn movie.
April 14th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Wow, Marsters is awesome, Im really glad he’s in this production, he’s always running his mouth about how great its going to be and what to expect. Fox doesnt realize it, but Marsters calming down alot of the fans by letting slip how true to the manga this movie is trying to be.
Again, Marsters is awesome. Screw Justin for not running HIS mouth.
April 14th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
i think that it would be better to use a not so old lookin piccolo in this movie even if he’s jus gonna get even younger
April 14th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
me to.
April 14th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
I like the idea of an old wrinkly Piccolo to start out with… I mean, that is how it went. He can get younger and buff later - if the second movie makes it that is.
Gosh, I’m so glad James is just one of those guys who can’t keep his mouth shut. It would of been a miracle if he could have kept everything in forever. He’s such a crowd pleaser. =P
April 14th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Does anyone know if Justin bulked up for the movie because I can’t tell by the pictures, and if so is he going to get bigger for the next two films?

In prison for 2000 years?
Since when? A prison couldn’t even hold Piccolo.
This is how it’s supposed to happen. -
Piccolo Daimao came into being some 300 years before the beginning of Dragon Ball. After a nameless Namekian arrived on Earth and attempted to assume the position of god/guardian of Earth, he was neglected of the position due to the evil that occulted within. As a result, the Namekian concentrated and trained to relinquish the evil within; which conspired into producing two separate entities — if one should perish, the other would also. The concentrated evil being known as Piccolo and designated himself with the title “Daimao”, laying siege to the Earth below. At first, the name “piccolo” was a reference to the wind instrument, but then a revelation by Mr. Popo to Bulma meant it translated to “different world” in the Namekian dialect.[2]
Eventually, he was imprisoned by Mutaito, the sensei of Muten Roshi and the Crane Hermit, in an electric rice cooker (nicknamed the “Denshi Jar” by fandom) by the suicidal Mafūba technique.
Centuries later, he is released from his confinement by Pilaf, and Piccolo decides to have all the current and former finalists of the Tenkaichi Tournament murdered, thereby removing all those who might be able to learn the Mafuba. To aid him in this, he spawns his first minion, Tambourine.
Tambourine quickly goes about his task, his first victim being Kuririn. Piccolo then spawns a second creature, Cymbal, who he assigns the task of gathering the Dragon Balls. Piccolo seeks the Dragon Balls so that he can wish to have his youth and vitality restored. He also spawns his right-hand man, Piano.

I love James Marsters. I love that he is considerate of the fans and keeps us updated but I don’t want him to get in trouble for blabbing.
April 14th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
whoa! settle down grandma!! Marsters is on OUR side!!
April 15th, 2008 at 8:52 am
To: Your Grandma.
Thats not how it really happened it was a much longer time period becase kami and piccolo are actually realy really old there more than 1000 years old for sure and seeing as i seriously just got done watching the whole Db DBZ and DBGT i think i would know. if you remember he arived on earth and a kid and nameks and live for 100 even 1000 of years plus the fact that he got lock away and kami became gardian of earth the gardians can live much longer lives.
April 16th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
actually nameks live for about over 300 years. Kami came to earth 300 years ago and split from his evil side 200 years ago. Piccolo Daimou is a little over 200 years old.
The other namek besides the son of Kattatsu (young namek sent to earth) that survived the storms that destroyed namek 300 years ago was the eldest namek. He’s about the same age as Kami and spawned about 100 nameks throught the 300 year life span before dying a natural death on earth in the Frieza saga. He lived to be around 300 years old.

Don’t you guys worry about Marsters getting in trouble for babbling, unless Fox finds out more people have gone on the boycott because even he admitted the story is so messed up

my first post…
Hi,
I was the one who asked James the question in which he responded about Piccolo’s appearance. I knew he was not suppose to talk about the movie and so I was very careful not to go there, not to come right out and ask specific questions which he could not answer, Instead, the actual question I asked was about how he was recently doing things which are firsts for him. Being a lead in a big movie is a first. He has not done such a role before. He has lots of acting experience in many different types of projects but nothing quite like this. So I wanted to know if it was as he expected or were there perhaps surprises, like what was it like to be on location for that long. He compared doing this movie to doing another “PS I Love You” where he had a smaller part. In PSILY he did not really try and step up and make suggestions; he went along with what he was told to do. With Piccolo he went for it and stood up to making a few demands and suggestions. He really felt Piccolo should have a certain look if he was trapped for a long time. When he was released he would be wanting to destroy what put him there and in James’ vision Piccolo should appear old and angry and ready to cause havoc. So he mentioned pushing for the change in the makeup as an illustration of how he asserted some of his views of who and what Piccolo was about, for what he thought the character should be, how he saw him. What was the surprise was that he actually did take that risk even if it might mean they would fire him over it.
Another person in the Q&A line after me asked a different question and I am not sure exactly what her question was but that is when James was talking about the hours he spent in make-up and having to do all these incredible stunts himself, spiraling jump off cliffs stuff..

April 17th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
this is a very important and special movie for those who appreciate it…i hope they can handle it because the special effects have to be probably the most difficult in any movie ever done (i think)…also they d better keep Marsters because i doubt they can find anyone else more suitable for such a big role and that Piccolo will look more like the Piccolo from the DBZ and DBGT series, otherwise they ll make a big mistake..

James is going to make a great Piccolo.
July 4th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
To “Youre Grandma” 10 spaces above me, U said wat I hav bin saying ever since i herd about piccolo. James Wong is gonna get jumped by Akira Toryama for this. If U haven’t noticed, Piccolo aint the only 1 James Wrong changed. Goku is smart now.
