Wire Work
Eriko Tamura has updated her blog once again, and thanks to our friend Jessica we have a great translation!
Firstly here is a blog from a few weeks ago:
Great Energy!
It was a fun shoot today! We filmed a lot of fighting sequence on the ring from an early morning. The venue was filled with Spanish people who work as extras. Spanish people are great! They are Latin, I re-realized it. Everybody was fun and vibrant, and that their great energy gave us the excitement in the scene even more! Thank you guys!
And here is her latest:
Wire and Harness
I did the wire-work for the first time this morning. It turned out that I wasn’t so good. It was actually harder than how it looked…!
I have been looking forward to doing the wire-flying action since before the holidays. Contrary to my excitement the wire took me to a wrong direction and I hit the light…how embarrassing! I would like to be able to do it better next time. I should ask if I could practice. I want to play Mai really tough and strong.
Small Update:
Better translation of Eriko’s Feb. 10th blog:
Today was also a good day for me and fun! The location we filmed was about an hour and a half away from our hotel, and the scenery was breathtaking! I’ve never seen such a spectacular scenery. I hope you can all enjoy the beautiful scenes in the movie as well. I’ve been to many places before but nothing compares to the scenery I saw today. All the hard work is worth it. It really shows how mother nature creates such spectacular landscapes over a period of time…it was absolutely magnificent and I was so much in awe, that I almost was in tears!
I was picked up at my hotel by a driver at 4:30AM and it felt at first a little anxious as I was all alone with him who I couldn’t communicate with (He peaks Spanish and does not speak English), and we were driving through the mountains in absolute darkness. As soon as we arrived at base-camp, Philippe did my make-up for me and I changed into my costume, then walked out onto the set. It was then that I realized that the sun had come up, and I was surrounded by a magnificent panorama view. I have no idea where the location was - I must ask the crew tomorrow. I wonder if it is a famous place open to tourists, or we just had the privilege to film there as a movie crew.
It was sunny and bright in the morning, but the weather in the mountains is unpredictable. It started to get windy and it started to rain all of a sudden while we were filming.
The rain eventually stopped so James and I went on top of a big rock again and continued the scene.
Working with James Marsters has been a wonderful experience to me.. he is such a nice guy yet he can play a great villain. I’d like to learn from him playing a good villain.
Later in the day it started to rain again that we had to stop filming. On my way back, I stopped by at China Mandarin again. The people at the restaurant said, “See you tomorrow!” (they know that we are filming Dragonball here in Durango) and I felt a little embarrassed.Randal and Annie were at the hotel when I got back, and we all talked for a while in their room… I am back in my room now. Annie was kind enough to rehearse with me on the scenes I have tomorrow! She is an acting coach in the East Coast. It is sad that Randal and Annie are leaving next week… I didn’t get to work with Randy in too many scenes, but I would hang out in his trailer with Annie a lot. I feel honored to be able to work with him as well as having the privilege to get to know him in person. I will do my best tomorrow!
Thanks again to Jessica for the great translations!

I wonder if this means Goku will be flying in the movie also.
I know he really didn’t fly until DBZ, but I guess it doesn’t matter that much if they make him do it in the movie. Perhaps he’ll have his nimbus cloud thing, but I won’t count on it.
Hopefully though, they’ll actually make the characters look badass flying around. Not like “people hanging from wires”. heh
February 18th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
FUCK YES!!! FLYING!!!!!
February 18th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
The X-Men series has a lot of that “people hanging from wires”.
February 18th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
She hit a light, lol. Did Mai fly? I can’t remember, been too many years…
And im pretty sure Goku didn’t fly in Dragonball, he just jumped really high, maybe thats what the wire work is for in this movie, although it really would not matter if he did or not.
Also if your worried about your movie looking like people hanging from wires, this is 2008. Not 1988. Keep that in mind.
February 18th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Did people shoot energy blasts in dragonball. I remember Roshi Teaching Goku the kamehameha who learned it instantly as he said “This kamehameha stuff really does work!” Roshis mouth drops in astonishment. Anywho, i hope they have energy blasts but not the corny shit from movies like The Covenant.
February 18th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
I think maybe Mai was just, jumping not flying, because i clearly remember mai just jumping to high spots during the Series, and she used like ships to fly, i don’t remeber her flying, and the only way goku flew was with the nimbus, all he could do was jump really high….i think
February 18th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Glad to know she is getting into the role anyway If they need wires then there is definately gonna be a lot action and jumping which is a good sign. By the way for the budget that the covenant had the special effects were pretty impressive.
February 18th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
Mai didn’t fly, she wasn’t even strong, she used weapons.
Its been a while since I watched Dragonball, but I think he learnt the flying the technique near the end of the series.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
I don’t think Goku ever learned to fly in Dragonball, he had to jump to kill King Piccolo and Piccolo Jr., who could actually fly. Of course, when he killed King Piccolo, he has still a kid.
Mai definitely couldn’t fly, in fact she really didn’t do much of anything physical, she just used robots and gadgets. I guess they are trying to make her into a sexy ninja catwoman to satisfy the menfolk.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
“I guess they are trying to make her into a sexy ninja catwoman to satisfy the menfolk.”
^LOL
That seems about right.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Goku Couldn’t fly like he did in DBZ but he could float in mid-air, cuz if you watched his fight with piccolo jr. they were floating in mid-air fighting, and he could control his levitation, the nimbus isn’t that important, but remember its good way to show off how pure Goku’s heart is as described in the series, cuz remember nobody could ride Nimbus unless you had a honest and pure heart.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
….i hope they show the nimbus, big part in DB series, we’ve got to remember that they still need to go somewhere else for production…montreal so i heard, so maybe characters like tien, Krillin, CHoazu, will appeare
February 18th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
lol @ jp
Yeah, Sabretooth or Toad jumping around in Xmen 1 really wasn’t that believable, and it was even THAT old.
Goku couldn’t really fly till after he left King Kai’s, if I remember properly. His body became accustomed to the miniature planet’s super-heavy gravity.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
@Sean
I think your right about Goku flying until after Leaving King Kai’s planet, thats when he died after piccolo did that beam that killed Goku and Raditz
February 18th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Well, I guess it’s a matter of opinion, but I never thought Mai was too bad-looking.
Plus, I’d rather they adapt an already-existent character into Piccolo’s “obligatory sexy henchwoman” than make up a new character. Plus, she, Pilaf, and Shu *DID* serve King Piccolo, so it’s a good fit.
February 18th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
@Sean and Anonymous
Goku flew for awhile when he first started his adventure on snake way. Then he got tired after a few days.
Goku could fly with piccolo in the begining of Z, he choose not to, so he could save energy. He also did this when he revived, he used nimbus to fly to vegeta and nappa, to conserve energy.
February 18th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
with a hundred million dollar budget it would be extremely hard for the special effects to suck… so we know thats going to be good… its just the story line im worried about.
–W.T.
February 18th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
niceeee
February 18th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Goku could fly at the end of DB sit and watch the fight between him and piccolo jr… and this movie is goin to rock
February 18th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
What are you talking about Goku not flying in Dragon Ball?
Tien, CHoazu could fly in Dragon Ball.
1st time Krillin flies, episode 137fight against Piccolo.
1st time Goku flies episode 139 and even more clear in the episode 140 fight against Tien.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
I don’t get this; Goku couldn’t fly when he beat King Piccolo, but he could when he beat Piccolo Jr; but Piccolo Jr. isn’t in the movie, right? King Piccolo is the enemy. Its all different.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:55 pm

February 18th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
great translations, thanks!
February 18th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
OMG..when the teaser fianlly comes out..everyone is going to go crazy. i can just see it now..riots in the streets and shit.
February 18th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Oh, I’ll be inciting a riot, alright.
A riot IN MY PANTS.
That makes no sense, I’m sorry. But I’m getting more and more excited about his movie with every bit of news.
February 18th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
I don’t think Goku could fly until Dragonball Z his Fight with Piccolo Jr I think was just fighting in midair. I mean look take a look at the episode if you think that was flying than Chi Chi flys too. You guys know how anime and martial arts movies are they can stay suspended in midair forever without plummeting to the ground then they gracefully land on theyre feet.
February 18th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
@Jeff
I could’ve SWORN Goku didn’t fly on Snake Way until he left King Kai’s. I remember how on his way TO Kai’s he was running/napping/riding a street sweeper, while on the way BACK, he was like, flying over the street sweeper dude’s head and shit.
Also, when he fell off Snake Way and landed in Hell, or whatever that was, he was jumping like crazy and couldn’t get back up.
February 18th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Hey Kaboom, this is JAPPO. I loves you long time.
February 18th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Goku first flew to avoid piccolo’s attack during the 23rd martial tournament. Goku was crippled so he flew and his friends and everyone were surprise about.
February 18th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
woo, its going to kick ass. with the hot ass mai doing some flying/super high jumping scenes. Cant freaking wait till the trailer…. hopefully the 14th well c one.Hey Fox peoples, can we at least get a poster meanwhile?????
Well while I ( and you guys ) wait, check out this fan made video of super 17/18 vs gohan. Its kick ass.

February 19th, 2008 at 1:46 am
Goku couldn’t fly until after he left snake way. In DB they were floating yes but not flying.
And on the way to King Kais place he was jumping. Remember he got stuck down in HFIL and kept trying to jump out of their? Ever wonder why he didn’t try fly out of there?
Its cause he couldn’t. King Kai taught him how but we never saw it
February 19th, 2008 at 2:15 am
Who is Randle that she is talking about??
February 19th, 2008 at 3:17 am
@ Sean
I just watched DBZ remastered, he flies before king kais
February 19th, 2008 at 3:34 am
@ sean
Goku did in fact started to fly when he arrived at Snake Way. For awhile he started to fly, but he decided to run.
February 19th, 2008 at 3:55 am
Hey im not a huge fan of db ive seen like 2 eps i was a heaps big fan of dbz wen it came out here in aus but foor this movie theyve already said taken out some important characters and other stuff to be able to make time for the story and the guy whos playin piccolo said that hes a combo of king piccolo and and regular piccolo so the story mightt nott exactly follow the anime and goku might fly and turn super sayan for all we know right now so im not gunna have opinion bout this movie till it comes outt orr at least a trailer does

goku flies for the first time when he escap from piccolo’s attack at the tournament and throw him out of the rumble. In top of that everybody are kindly surprised by that new move of goku.
February 19th, 2008 at 6:25 am
Is everyone forgetting how goku beat Piccolo?? Buka Jutsuhe can fly by the end of theseries there obviously just adding it in to well..make it betterlol !
yet Mai could neverfly, but since they have completelychanegdher characters i guess its not such a stretch as shape shifting hehe
February 19th, 2008 at 6:27 am
For JEFF
When I asked you : Why are you so optimistic in your comment (14/02/2008) I was talking about Krilin’s appearence .
February 19th, 2008 at 6:36 am
its not important whether goku could actually fly or not at this time in the manga….. the movie wants to show the whole(!) spirit of dragonball not only of some episodes, so who gives a shit about that…
February 19th, 2008 at 6:37 am
IMPORTANT!!
(…I hope the text in Japanese shows)
@Jessica:
I would thank you, if I didn’t know you had //invented// large parts of your ‘translation’. How do I know? I translated it to French so I remember fairly well what the text said.
You’re not supposed to write fiction, //you’re translating//. There’s a //limit// to how many ways you can translate a text and still be faithful to it. I put everything I think you invented in brackets:
1)
[ picked up at my hotel by a driver at 4:30AM and it felt at first a little anxious as I was all alone with him who I couldn't communicate with (He speaks Spanish and does not speak English), and we were driving through the mountains in absolute darkness. ]
You could argue that she was picked up at the hotel. However, I don’t see the part about the driver and her communication problems (though she mentioned it before) anywhere in the original blog entry.
2)
今日の撮影、ほんと素晴らしかった・・・ジェイムスと一緒のシーンが多いので、彼が本当良い方で私ラッキーです。
[ Working with James Marsters has been a wonderful experience to me.. he is such a nice guy yet he can play a great villain. I'd like to learn from him playing a good villain. ]
WRONG!!
It says something like: “Where James and I climb a rock. Today’s scene was really wonderful… I am lucky that I get to play in many scenes with James who’s really good. “
3)
I will do my best tomorrow.
[ Annie ] was kind enough to rehearse with me on the scenes I have tomorrow! [ She is an acting coach in the East Coast. ] It is sad that Randal and Annie are leaving next week… [ I didn't get to work with Randy in too many scenes, but I would hang out in his trailer with Annie a lot. ]
I don’t know if Randall’s wife is an acting coach. However I do know that the parts about her bonding with Annie were inserted by the translator. There’s no way you can read the text like that. She most likely rehearsed with Randall. Else, why would she mention him after the three dots? ; P

@jeff and gnotleo
You guys are right. It really seems like there wasn’t a specific point in the series when Goku suddenly gained the ability to fly. He just started doing it. Or maybe I’m still off, I dunno.
I’m pretty sure he’s going to “learn” to fly in the movie though. That would throw off some viewers if a character is walking partway through the movie and just randomly takes off into the sky.
February 19th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Here’s the proof Goku flying 7:02
Sorry, I couldn’t find it in english.
February 19th, 2008 at 11:39 am
You know how they used that special effect in the movie Jumper, how the guy can go from one place to another in seconds, all you see is like his body disintegrate and appeare somewhere else, dont they do that in the DB,DBZ,and DBGT series, when they need to travel quickly, id be sick if they did that……would make the movie superbly authentic
February 19th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
she update the blog again: “Scenes with James”.
February 19th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
the translation is a fake, this is the Babylon (version 7.0) translation of “Wire and Harness” :
I wasn’t able to think this morning though I experienced a wire for the first time…Being used to it really thought that I did it with need unlike looking. Though I wanted to enjoy it, in time and the pressure which drew near, I did my best as much as possible. Though an exercise rehearsal should be possible by time to do this next of a wire again..
February 19th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
….isnt the translation…pretty much liek the other one?? Its just in different words..
February 19th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
yes, but never said this :”Contrary to my excitement the wire took me to a wrong direction and I hit the light…how embarrassing! I would like to be able to do it better next time.” this is invented.

February 19th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Could somebody be kind enough to translate Eriko’s last blog entry?
Yes, ther is a new one titled “Scene with James”
It talks a bout piccolo and a scene in a lake and something about a fish, but that is all I am able to understand with the translator.
February 19th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
They walked at the bottom of a lake (Marsters and her). And she says that they looked like fish. She also says that her role is difficult and that a lot of improvisation is expected of her. However, she is somehow reassured that someone with so much experience with villain roles is playing with her.
February 19th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Thank you Anonymous! Now it makes more sense.
February 19th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
@ Anonymous about Krillin FEB 14th.
Because movies do this all the time, they don’t show characters or have suprise characters. Krillin if in the movie will be a minor character, just to get the plot moving, here is a few examples.
1. In Harry Potter, Neville is actually around and has alot of adventures with Harry, Hermione, and Ron, but in the movie he doesn’t have near as many adventures with them. However, in later movies, he is used more since he is key to the plot moving along.
Krillin will most likey be a minor character, probally comic relief, or see him in one or two scenes, but when the plot needs to move along, Krillin will be there.
Having Krillin in 1 or 2 scenes would not make him important enough to list in cast (official cast isn’t even out yet (i am talking all the people in the movie not just the stars))
Now, of course, as time goes on, the chances of krillin being in the movie, are lower, and lower, but I am dead set on him being in the movie, at least one scene, which is definately not required to tell cast months in advance.
No one knew Chuck Norris was in Dodgeball until official cast released, not even teaser trailors.
I am pretty sure Krillin will be minor, like he was, but important enough to move the plot along.
But I may be wrong,
February 19th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Goku didn’t jump to defeat King Piccolo. He used a one-handed Kamehameha to blast himself upward and then he tore right through his body.
The first time that Goku officially flew was at the end of his fight with Piccolo Jr. in Dragon Ball. The final attack he used to defeat Piccolo was that he flew into him and pushed him out of the tournament ring. Everyone who was there was shocked to see that Goku knew the Bukujutsu (levitation technique).
Goku also flew on Snake Way when he first arrived. The ogre who drove him to the starting point said that he was cheating for doing so. When Goku almost fell off while flying, he decided to run instead. The time that he did fall off was because he was asleep on the back of another ogre’s street sweeper. The sweeper hit a bump and Goku fell. He didn’t wake up until he hit the bottom.

I hope they make Goku fly like Superman or Neo, because If I see some wiring sh*t like I did in X-men. Im going to be pissed!!
February 20th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Oh yeah!! They should defiantly show the flying Nimbus cloud. Then later show Goku flying. It doesn’t really matter just as long as I see Goku fly like Neo.
Fly Chatwin!! Fly!!!!
February 20th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
this has nothing 2 do with them flying but when does goku start to do that teleport thing he does? that’s cool
February 21st, 2008 at 6:30 am
It’s called Instant transmission! I think Goku start doing it in the Cell saga. He better not do it in the movie though. That would be dumb, because we need to seem him fly before he does all of that.
February 21st, 2008 at 3:47 pm
it was instant transmission, and he learned it from the people of the planet yardrat, the place he took refuge and healed, right after namek exploded.
he first uses it (that we see) to show his friends, by taking master roshi’s sunglasses.
when he is doing instant transmission, he is moving at 300,000 km per second, or 186,000 miles per second.
Wow, i know alot of useless info.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article Wire Work, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
