Comingsoon.net cought up with Stephen Chow while in New York promoting his new film CJ7.
Most recently, Chow has been involved as a producer on director James Wong’s Dragonball, mainly supervising the script and offering advice and guidance on the bigger picture, but he said that the whole process of working on an American film has been very smooth, with the film being close to shooting. Although Chow’s involvement would make one think that it would be done in the style of Kung Fu Hustle, he said that Wong is a capable director who has his own ideas of how the film should look.

chow even being mentioned in the same sentence as dragonball puts me completely at ease. Why? He of all people in the world of film actually cares about the source material. You just have to watch his movies to know it. James Wong better do what he says!

Omg, i thought Chow’s look would be in the film. i figured it wouldn TOTALLY be his style since this is hollywood and he not directing but if James WOng is makeing the film his own way than im a little nervous about the outcome. Non the less, i think the action in this movie will be top notch if nothing else.

this movie needs to be something completely different from all other martial arts movies. Nothing like any Jet Li or Kung Fu Hustle movies. It needs to be fast paced fighting (as if they are moving at the speed of light) like in the anime. This movie, I believe will be a huge success the more the news gets out and teasers start popping up. Soon we’ll see interviews and possibly Justin Chatwin on late night shows talking about the movie promoting it.
I think it’s going to do amazingly well. It’s not going to bomb by any means.. and I think considering how hard his has to be to turn something like Dragonball into a live action film. They are taking the right necessary steps to turn this into a great epic movie. It’s got action, adventure, romance. And according to what James said about Piccolo in the end “hero wouldn’t be the wrong term by the end of the movie, but it’s a long journey.”
That means most likely Goku lets Piccolo live just like he did in the original. Which means, most likely a sequal. It needs to end with Goku getting married, possibly showing baby Gohan. And Saiyan space pod crashing to Earth (Radditz).

I have alot of faith in this film and believe this film will succeed. I am a huge Dragonball fan I fell with James wong at the helm he will produce the goods.
I know nobody belives he can pull it off, Ok “the One” not so good. I do beleive the budget for that film was pretty poor in comparison to what he has at his disposal for Dragonball. He still managed to make a action film with some pretty neat fight scenes.
Stephen Chow a fan, it’s a good thing he’s got involvement in some form.
Justin Chatwin has no choice but to make this the role of his life. This movie will make or break him. My guess is he’ll rock this movie out.
Masters will be a great Piccollo, I believe a deep dark voice and a badaas atitude like the Dark knight will make him the popular charecter of the film.
For those of you with doubts, stay patient. It wont be that bad,
Transformers 100m turned out to be great, those special effects were through the roof.

Smooth process is usually a good sign.
So Dragonball won’t be a kung-fu hustle remake, thats good. It would be dumb to see Goku do buddahs palm, lol.
If this movie sucks, there is only 2 men to blame, the script writer, and the director. Mostly the director, cause he can always require changes to the script if he knows it will not be good enough.
I hope Wong knows that if he screws this up, there will be rioters at his home, and japan will hate him. Not to mention the WORLD, since Dragonball is an international phenom.
Lets just hope he gets it right, cause if he does, this could be right up there with LOTR and Star Wars.

I am so lookin forward to this movie!! I am such a huge fan of the dragonball franchise and i just hope that these ppl get it right, even if they have to make a few changes, as long as the story turns out good, along with the costumes, cgi, and ofcourse the music, than thats all that matters. And we dun wanna see the actors lookin exactly like the anime, i mean thats just stupid lol

Ltes make SOMETHING really CLEAR….when spiderman and transformers were being made MANY people doubted them because it looked impossible to make those type of movies….and what a big success they became, look at X-Men…they have those powers down and those characters look tight…i dont kno bout those stupid haters who doubt shit but this movie will be succesful. I think that this movie will surprise a lot of people who think it will be bad. If Stephen Chow and James Marsters, who are dragonball fans themselves, have been saying a lot of possitive things about the film, then I feel like it is in good hands.

There is no way this movie can be bad, even Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins, as horrible as it was, was soo cool to see our beloved Dragonball characters in live action.
They could make this movie as horrible as that movie was, and hardcore fans will still watch and think it was funny or slightly cool.

Wow! Of course he’s going to say positive things about the movie. It’s called promoting the movie. As a producer, that’s your job. You’d have to be the biggest moron to say something like, “Well Wong’s not that great. Hey the movie’s not turning out so good as I thought. Oh well, we’ll get the fans’ money.” That’s just asking to get fired. Obviously some mindless sheep in here are buying into Chow’s bs. lol. You guys just buy into that crap because you really really want it to be good and I don’t blame you. Face the facts, though. Just LOOK at how it’s turning out. And look at yourselves too. There’s no way in hell that Hollywood would make a bad adaption like that one was! and with that in mind, Im going to watch This Dragonball Movie with a smile on my face knowing that this movie won’t be as bad, or worse then that of the Magic Beans, but Dragonball The magic beans? I’d rather be watching Power Rangers then that piece a shit you call Dragonball XD lol That movie is one of the reasons why fans can’t swallow the fact that there beloved show is having the Live-Action treatment

How is the story unrecognizable!? You’ve got Son Goku and Bulma looking for the dragonballs, the meet master roshi and yamcha, Roshi trains goku, and then you have piccolo and the world martial arts tournament! Piccolo is green, Goku’s gi is ORANGE ,he learns the kamehameha, Goku is still a saiyan, his grandpa dies…WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT!?
Some of you guys need to realize that they’ll never be able to make a dragonball movie thats panel for panel like the manga! They couldn’t do it with Xmen,Transformers,spiderman, batman, superman…NONE OF EM! If you feel you can then get your own production company and make your own damn dragonball movie! Until then just be quiet, get under the covers and eat some SOUP! My God!

I have no clue as to how this movie will turn out, no one does. All we have here are clues, and tidbits on how this will go, you can hate us for looking at the positive side, call us sheep if that makes you happy and you’re exactly right, it’s there job to promote this movie, they wouldn’t be hired for talking shit about the movie they’re making. Planet of the apes remake was not a bad movie, compared to Godfather yeah, but if we compare all movies to Godfather, than you better not watch anything, ’cause nothing will beat it.

And even if they make it a kids film, I found Robots entertaining. Along with other “kids films” ratatouille for instance (I cant spell :p)
Stop lookiong at movies like, this better be the best story, best everything EVER!!!
Look at movies from the entertainment and producers prospective, we all know Dragonball will be entertaining, and we know it will be well done. Even if the story is wack, the movie itself will still be very entertaining.
Now if they get the story almost perfect, then we have another Star Wars or LOTR coming.

to Son Goku, dude who gives a fuck? those movie’s are old as hell, Fox is still making their, while you….is bitching and I don’t think people get paid for that… I don’t care how this movie turns out, it’s not gonna ruin my life, not every fucking movie is gonna be a big hit, look at Harry Potter I see people bitch about it alot, and it’s the highest gross film series of all time,it surpassed all 21 of Jame’s Bond movies and the Stars Wars series, so lets just face, people are gonna like it, people aren’t, it’s normal, and to be quite fucking honest, a Dragonball movie will never be considered a good movie, even if your dream cast was in it, and everything was how you wanted, it will still turn out crappy..

ok this is for all you haters out there i’ve watch db and dbz for a long time and so for its been good. i didn’t like gt that much but i still watch it just to see how it ends, and thats what why want to talk about the movie. you shouldn’t say that the movie is going to suck when hasn’t even come yet. yes i myself had a bad feeling about this movie but it showed me that i shouldn’t go crazy over this and just wate and see how it all turns out. who knows this could be a really great movie. when i heard that thay were making a movie about db i thougth it was a lie like in 2004 but now that i know that its real i really hope it dose will. and as for you haters out there yall need to stop haten just because things art not your way. just to let yall haters know no one like yall. yall make people want to kich yall ass!

Nope…F*** the Bull**** you are just determined to hate this movie no matter what. Anybody could be directing this movie and you’d still complain about it so all of that is irrelevant. At the end of it all in August when the movie comes out You’ll be one of the first people in line buying a ticket to see this movie. No matter how much you “don’t want it” its gonna happen.
Its sad though. The people in durango are HYPED as hell to see this movie and everyone here just wants to hate hate hate. We don’t even deserve a Dragonball movie…
