Wow, i like the choice for grandpa Gohan! He looks good and isn’t a well known actor.
Its weird, but there’s like three chinese people in hte movie, and only one japanese person… But i guess it makes sense since Akira was inspired by a chinese story. And you can see it in alot of the styles of cloths.
And i also liek Chatwins hair. It kinda looks Gokuish

I like Chatwin’s hair, too. It obviously doesn’t look exactly like Goku’s (c’mon, in a live action film? that’d just be stupid), but it definitely looks influenced by Goku’s crazy hair style. It’s spiked up and looks a bit like it’s parted like Goku’s — eh, I’m getting used to it. XD
I’m grateful that for a rather rushed adaptation, at least some consideration for the original source is being put in. I mean, they could’ve easily made him have completely normal hair, and no funny orange gi or anything. . . .

Chatwin’s hair looks really good for the live action Dragonball. I think it’s pretty cool how they have it spiked up liked Goku’s hair. Im glad they didn’t over do it, because it has to be real as possible. So far Chatwin and Jamie’s hair looks really good! Lets just see how they make Bulma’s, and Master Roshi’s hair….

I understand your frustrations with this film. I think everyone who is blindly saying it will be good or it will suck are jumping the gun. That said both sides have some valid issues.
The people that say this film will be good are looking at the production optimistically. They see the cast and think,GREAT. They believe the artistic license that has been taken with the original source material is fine. They see altering of the lead character as perfectly fine. Its okay that Goku looks to old for Dragonball. Its okay that Goku is skinny. Due to cultural perspective its definitely ok that he is white. All in all they view anything that says Dragonball as coool.
The people that say the film will SUCK are pessimistic. They are die hard Dragonball fans who want as literal a interpretation as possible. They think this cast sucks. Meaning Goku should have crazy hair and should be a kid with a tail. They think the costumes that have been shown so far look cheap. They are livid that key characters have been removed (KRILLIN). They resent that Dragonball is being made “realistic”. Nothing about Dragonball was realistic. So the expectation is a movie that looks like a fantasy world.
Heres the deal, FOX doesn’t care about either side. They care about the bottom line, MONEY. So both sides are fighting with each other like tools! This is just a money making endeavor for FOX. It is not, it will not please all DRAGONBALL fans. That’s ok, cause FOX doesn’t care. THEY JUST WANT ALL OUR MONEY! SO SHUT UP AND PAY OUR CORPORATE MASTER!!!! ALL HAIL FOX!!!!!!!!

Choosing Randall Duk Kim (a Korean) is a good choice. He is fit enough and looks wise enough to pass as Grandpa Gohan.
I am also tired of reading about “how this movie will suxxors” and “OmG!1 ThEy ChOoSe ChAtWiN 4 GoKu!!1″
That is insane. What do you people want? A Direct port of the anime to live action? What would be the point? To watch the exact same thing with people instead of animation? That would be “suxxors”.
Having the live action movie is a great thing. Even if it isn’t a “copy” of the show. This will allow us to feel the Dragonball world in a whole new perspective.
We need to see the bigger picture here people. Simply because of this movie being made, especially if it is good, it will revive the Dragonball franchise.
I am talking possibly new video games, new toys, new anime revival by Toriyama in a all new series(Dragonball Online anyone?)
Most of you don’t know that Toriyama wanted to end the story at the Freiza Saga. But due to popularity and demand he had to continue. Finfally he got sick of making DBZ and stopped all together, thats when GT cam by all new writers since Toriyama had felt his story of Goku was far being overstretched.
Having this movie, coupled with all new popularity, the Dragonball Online video game, and all sorts of new fans from all ages, this may ispire Toriyama to come back to the Dragonball ideolgy and make an all new story for us.
For instance, Goku Jr. and Vegeta Jr. at the tournament anyone? That could be interesting. Or like Dragonball online, 300 years after Goku’s time, an all new story!
Stop bashing this film, saying it will ruin DBZ and “it will make a mockery of my obsession”
This movie is exactly what Dragonball needed. Do you honestly think DBZ would stay forever as it was?

I’d definitely consider myself on the optimist “side,” being that even as a DB fan, I’m very laid back, and would likely enjoy the movie either way.

All you have to do is consider the source material in regards to what is going to happen.
This is ’supposedly’ based on the King Piccolo saga, so use what you know of this to form at least an educated guess at what will happen.

I don’t have an issue with the cast aside from Jamie Chung. She doesn’t really have any acting experience aside from The Real World and acting as a Hooters-like girl in “We Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry.” I don’t really know how good she’ll do nor her looks for Chi-Chi (I prefer Stephen Chow’s choice.) I love Emmy Rossum as an actress so I hope she pulls my favorite character well. I’m wondering how Mai is supposed to fit in without Pilaf or Shou o.O. And I really don’t get the high school gig, because Goku was never around anyone was his adoptive grandaddy. BUT I do feel relieved the actors have done research and the locations are near-to-perfecto!
