It seems we finally have an end to the madness. Marsters himself has confirmed that Piccolo will indeed be green in his recent interview with TV Guide.
TV Guide: You’re plunging into a big sci-fi feature next. Can you talk about the live-action Dragonball?
Marsters: Dragonball is the coolest television cartoon in the last 50,000 years. Its only failing is that the female characters aren’t drawn well — we’re going to fix that in the movie. It’s got a Shakespearean sense of good and evil and there are incredible action scenes with characters of unbelievable power. It’s going to be really visually exciting. I was told the budget is about $100 million.TV Guide: Nice to know you’re so enthusiastic. Who do you play?
Marsters: Lord Piccolo. He’s thousands of years old and a very long time ago he used to be a force of good but got into a bad argument and was put into prison for 2,000 years. It got him very angry, and he finds a way to escape and then tries to destroy the world. The cool thing is, anybody who has seen Dragonball knows that Lord Piccolo transforms into a character named Piccolo, and that is a whole other ball of wax. That is one of the most popular characters in the whole series. I’ve been told I’m working for people who will just flay me alive if I give too much information, but what I can tell you is the character is green, bald and has pointed ears. Heroic wouldn’t be the wrong term by the end, but it’s a long journey.

We’ve got Gohan announced, Piccolo will look like he’s supposed to… we have Chow Yun Fat and Emmy Rossum who look perfect for their respective parts. They are adapting the best part of Dragonball and they have some of the best CGI people to help them. Now, who’s the idiot who said they can’t make it by mid-August?
All I need to see now is either a trailer or an official poster and I’ll stop reading spoilers about the movie before I’ve seen it!! ^^

Dragonball is gonna FReakin’ ROCK!!!! Jame Marsters awnsered all the question we were wondering about. I feel so relieved to know Piccolo is gonna be green. This movie is gonna stay true to the Dragonball roots. I can’t wait to see it now. Marsters said he is going to be King Piccolo! So who will be Piccolo Jr.???? This is the best Dragonball news yet! I can’t wait to see this movie now. Im more hyped then ever! Bring on the Piccolo pics!!!! Maybe they might do the egg thing in the end. Wow!!!! Im so happy right now…. Yeah, don´t worry about this. You know Hollywood will milk it as much as possible and their aim is to franchise it. They will make a huge effort to not screw it up. In the end its more money if they manage to make a decent movie and then launch all the sequels.

You guys are so sure Krillin wont be in the movie, is any one of you working on the film? He may make a cameo, just so we know who he is. Krillin will definately be a big role with Gohan during the fight with Vegeta.
I cant believe that finding out piccolo is green makes this move 100x better for some, lol. Of course he will be green, but here is the big question, will he look namekian? What if they remove the pink muscle tissue? Or like i said earlier, no feelers, lol.
There is no point in worrying, cause they will most likely follow the story and the look, he is right about the shakespearean aspect. Dragonball is a great story.
Oh and one more thing, Who the hell says this movie is rushed? Are you freakin kidding me? Jet Li’s Fearless fight scenes were filmed in 60 days. And that movie was awesome.
Frerakin Robocop had such a low budget it couldn’t redo scenes, it was shoot, and go next, next.
Anyone who knows film (I have worked in independant and with professional directors) that with a 100 million dollar budget, well, this movie will not be rushed in anyway. Having 100 people work on something in the film, to make a release deadline, doesnt mean it is being rushed. Because normally it would be less crew, for a longer time.

These are my picks for who should play who in the sequel. Only gonna choose 3 though.
Ryan Reynolds as Goku, because he got’s the body build and the Goku look. Plus he’s a good actor and know’s how to fight somewhat which is seen in “Blade: Trinity”.
Hugh Jackman as Vegeta because he’s built aswell and is a awesome actor, and of course has fighting experiance. He played a awesome Wolverine in “X-Men”. I know people are saying stuff like, “He’s too tall!” but the truth is using a computer they could shorten him a bit just like they did Elija Woods on “The Lord of The Rings”. So yeah and it’s not like hight really matter’s that much. Aslong as Vegeta aint too tall, if he’s Goku’s hight of equal to his hight i’m gooooood.
Vin Diesel as piccolo Jr. because Piccolo is suppose to be the biggest and meanest looking Z- Fighter on DBZ and Vin has all the looks to make a 100% perfect Piccolo. He’s really built and has the voice of a Piccolo, so thats why I think he will be great in DBZ.
Well everyone this is who I think should be in the sequal, and yes you DBZ haters…there WILL be a sequal!

I can already hear the radical dragonball fanatics that said that piccolo was not going to be green(just because the character description said “despite being humanoid”)saying: “Oh no, this movie is going to suck because he won’t have antenae because he did not mention them on his comment”. Well you know what he did not say piccolo had eyes, does that mean that he is not going to have eyes in the movie? Learn the lessons of piccolo being green and all the “oh no he is not going to be green”. By the way Dragon Ball is an anime, not a religion. I thought some could benefit from that fact.

Because, he know all about Goku and his good friends, and it sounds that this guy teto is a little part in movie 1, but in the next movies the part going be bigger!

I find it some what humorous, how James Marsters talks about King Piccolo “transforming” in to Piccolo Junior; the guy that every one loves to love, of course. If I am not mistaken, I believe that King Piccolo actually “gave birth” to a rather large egg, and did not “transform” in to Piccolo Junior, for which would require that the very fabric of King Piccolo’s being would have to cease to exist, in order for Piccolo Junior to enter in to existance. This is obviously not the case, though.

You can’t outlook a character like Krillin even if people say it’s a trilogy.This is dragonball.Krillin,Yamcha and Tien are central characters after Goku, of course. Krillin for instance appears in the anime for the first time shortly after Goku. Even of they are making a trilogy(althow I don’t know that)what’s the point of putting Krilling in a sequel of he’s not there from the begining?
Anyway, I accept the fact that this movie must have a certain amount of originality,but from this to basically forgetting an important character… there is a difference.
But maybe I’m getting ahead of myself.After the first trailers perhaps I’ll have a better image.

I’ve been reading all the comments and thought I should say something.
I love Krillin to death, don’t get me wrong. I wish he was here. But think about it. He’s a hard guy to duplicate on screen. He’s a bald midget with no nose. I mean. How many of them have you seen? I’m sure they could CGI and all that, but I don’t think it would be the same.
Teto IS Krillin, I think (I hope). Hopefully some comic relief, but just a name change so that they don’t have to make Krillin LOOK like Krillin. But I imagine he’ll serve Krillin’s purpose. In the third movie (if it goes the way I think it will) HE’LL be killed and Goku will turn SSJ. So… the problem fixes itself.
As far as whoever posted that Justin Chatwin isn’t excited and it will show because he’s a bad actor… I actually think he’s a pretty good actor. Just because he doesn’t show the level of enthusiasm as Marsters doesn’t mean his job will be terrible. Wait until you SEE the movie until you judge, please.
I’m really looking forward to seeing a trailer, too! Hopefully that will end a lot of speculation. I’m sure that the film will look great (even if some of us don’t like the plot) if nothing else, than because of the massive budget. Can’t wait for it! ^_^
Oh, and does anyone know if there has been word of a trailer being/not being shown during the Super Bowl? Does it need to be announced to make it so?

I wonder what james is implying with the whole “females weren’t drawn well” part. It’s true of course, since they looked very frumpy and poorly done. Bulma had no ass then had ass later, and her boobs changed size every episode. i guess the boobs in the movie will be more consistant!

Sir, Wake up! Dragon Ball Z is targeted at an audience of children of 8 to 12 years old. The majority of people that watch it (or watched it)are on that age range. If you think tat dragon ball z is for adults then you must definitelly have problems. The fact is that dragon ball and dragon ball z are “Kids Shows”.
DragonBall z=kids show.
Dragonball may have a lot of violence and some nudity, but in japan where it was created, those things do not mean much as long as they are shown in the correct light.
If you want to know what is an “adult’s show then watch Neon Genesis Evangelion. That is an adults show.

Here’s some food for thought, when DBZ UNCUT was aired on Toonami, it was swiftly taken off the air and replaced with the heavily edited version due to numerous complaints from parents. I guess I’m not the only person who thinks it’s not a kid’s show.

I am not quite sure, but I think that Dragonball was initially “targeted” towards the younger audience, but after a little while, ended up capturing a reasonable older audience, as well. I guess that every one wins, in the end.

DragonBall is a kids’ show *in Japan*, where standards aren’t quite the same as those for the far more prudish and easily offended American audiences. Even still, the “nudity” is mostly comedic instances with young Goku and Gohan (both little nudist weirdos), and the violence isn’t much more severe than that of the 90’s Batman. All in all, still okay for kids.
(And to “Son Goku,” DBZ Uncut wasn’t “pulled” from the air. The redubbed episodes they were labeling as the “Ultimate Uncuts” just ended at that point; around Ginyu’s appearance)
Bottom line is; Chatwin’s not misinformed. DragonBall *IS* a kids’ show. It’s just one that a lot of teenagers and adults like, as well.

No matter what you say the target audience IS kids and young adults! nudity, gore, bad language, all of these aren’t a problem there in the rising sun, but apparently, the U.S. does!!! but besides the point, it is still aimed towards kids and young adults! DB/DBZ, was created in Japan!! There are tons of shows similar to this that are far worse than what you see here in DB/DBZ, for example, ever heard of Hokuto no Ken? and even though it ain’t aimed towards kids, the young generation, will just hear about it and watch it other wise! because the show is that popular! Same goes for One Piece, and Naruto!!

Saw was not made in japan. When they did saw IN America, they targeted the movie towards a mature audience. When they did the anime IN Japan, They targeted it to kids and Young teenagers. Cultural difference make dragonball be edited in the American air run. but in the end it is still targetd at kids, therefore dragonball is a kids show.
Even more, dragonball is a “SHOUNEN”. search what is a shounen sir. A shounen means that it is targeted at young boys. If you think that the official classification of the show and manga is not enough, then please live happy in your alternate reality.
And if you seriously think that DragonBall and DragonBall Z are not kids shows, then I conclude that you have never seen an R rated movie.

Shows like Dragonball/Z, Hokuto No ken, One Piece, Naruto, Yuyu Hakusho, if you’d actualy paid attention to the difference between these japanese shows compared to the ones here in the US there’s a huge difference! and when the US finally showed the uncut side of DragonballZ, something was bound to happened because there are limits to what we can show to our kids here in the US than that of the rising sun are you getting any of this, or should I explain a bit more?…Saw a kids movie, you’re a joke dude…

I don’t think there will be a teaser for Dragonball this Sunday. If Fox does decide do play the Dragonball teaser at the Superbowl. Then I will be soooo excited! I’ll probably run up and down my house. If Fox decides to show the Dragonball teaser this Sunday. Then this will be the best superbowl ever! I don’t care if they show 2 seconds of it. Hey!!!! Lol, I can’t believe I stirred up a hornet’s nest by saying DB is an anime and not a kid’s cartoon. Bottom line is where I’m from kid’s cartoons are categorized under stuff you’d see on the Disney channel or Nickelodeon. You don’t see people of all ages watching that stuff, except some of the older Spongebob episodes, lol. My initial main arguement wasn’t even about that anyway, it was that I thought Justin Chatwin was a terrible choice for Goku. He’s too skinny, he could have gotten at least a tiny bit muscles just to look like he could fight by working out, but there’s picks of him from the other day and he still has a body like a skinnier version of Will Farrell. He looks like the heaviest weight he’s lifted was the pen to sign his million-dollar contract. He’s just another Hollywood prettyboy if you ask me. I hate it when wimps like him ruin the coolest characters out there, because I’d hate for some annoying skinny little man to be synonomous with Goku. What’s next? Zac Effron as Broly?

I think that Justin Chatwin was a great choice for Goku in Dragonball. In dragonball during the piccolo jr saga, goku looked like a regular teenager. He was not all beefed up like in later episodes of dragon ball Z. I really do not see a problem with him playing Goku in the piccolo jr saga (the movie seems to be a fusion of the king piccolo and piccolo jr sagas).

You think he was buff in those pictures? You mean the pictures from hoycinema.com right? The one taken during filming from December when he’s in the orange shirt or the one from I think yesterday where he’s in the yellow shirt with the Paris Hilton sunglasses? Uh yeah, that’s not buff. The one from yesterday? I would call that lean at best, and I’m being generous because if he ever started working out, he probably started in November at the earliest. You can’t get buff in that short period of time even if you’re on steroids and I’m pretty sure the producers wouldn’t tell him to do something stupid like that.

Bottom line is where I’m from kid’s cartoons are categorized under stuff you’d see on the Disney channel or Nickelodeon. Goku wasn’t even that buffed up in the king piccolo saga! He had muscles, but not that buffed up when compared to his Z days o_O I thought you wanted it to be exactly like the show? In all Seriousness though! You’re bitching about teh most stupidest things! Just because he doesn’t look like goku doesn’t mean it’ll ruin the movie, and if it does ruin it for you? Just by that single thing, then I feel so sorry for you buddy! Seriously, thats just sad once you think about it! OH AND WHERE JAPAN IS, WHERE THE SHOW IS ORIGINALLY CREATED! IT IS A KIDS SHOW!! In comparison to many anime Dragonball is a kid’s show. I know that some japanese grandparents watched it with their grandchildren. But in a country who censors curses, Dragonball had to attract a slightly older audience than it did in Japan. Nudity and violence is frequent in anime. When they deal with mature stuff, they use /psychological violence/: like Monster, Death Note or Eiji MPD(?) and… Shadow Star, anyone? I think I made my point. Besides, Chatwin was taken out of context - that’s already been established.
If you compare Tobey Maguire to Peter Parker (except in the comics that were made after the movie) he doesn’t look the part. But he certainly acts his part well.
Let’s hope the same thing for Justin Chatwin. He actually looks a lot more like Goku than Tobey Maguire ever looked like P.P.
What I want to know is how he’s getting muscles so fast. In the latest photos I swear I thought that they injected steroids into him. Of course that’s most likely wrong. XD
It’s been established that a DB trailer will not be shown at the superbowl. Soooo, does anyone here know when they make a poster?

Geeze, I feel sorry for all of the hardcore Dragonball fans, out there. I wish that I could feel the same way, for all of the hordes of sheep, that are gobbling up this slop. Alas, life does not work that way, I guess.

NOOOOOOOO Dragonball TEASOR????
I was really sad when I found out that Dragonball wasn’t going to be shown during the Superbowl. That’s what Movieland confirmed. I just hope it’s not true! I really do!! I want to see the teasor or poster for Dragonball so bad. The only reason why I thought about seeing the Superbowl was because I thought there was going to be a Dragonball teasor. I am so hyped to see Dragonball!! I even bought all 3 seasons of Dragonball Z. Im buying the 4th season next weekend!
Even though Movieland has very good sources when it comes to Dragonball. Im still going to watch the Superbowl to make sure! Fox does surprise people alot. Who knows they might have something up there sleave…. Oh yeah! I agree with keiji-san. How is Chatwin geeting muscles so quick?? He looks a little bigger then before. That’s from what I seen in the new pics with him and pope Alan. Of course he is not toned out, but he is way bigger then before. Which is very good!
