Eriko Tamura Blogs About Dragonball
Actress Eriko Tamura (Mai) has been blogging about Dragonball on her official website. Though I am unable to get a better translation, she talks about various things like living in Mexico, training, and wearing special costumes for the film.
Read all about it (if you can read Japanese) at Eriko’s blog.

that’s my scoop.
January 9th, 2008 at 9:24 am
[MAI] Late 20s, female, her features exotic, sexy but deadly, dressed in gleaming black, with weapons strapped all over her body, she’s a martial arts expert and Lord Piccolo’s chief enforcer. Crafty and quick thinking, Mai uses her ability to shapeshift near the climax of the movie and takes on the form of Chi Chi, a young martial arts expert who’s romantically involved with Goku and later saves Piccolo from Master Roshi’s curse; once she is revealed she ends up in the fight of her life.
Thats Tamura’s role in te movie. I actually don’t mind the change they did to herto make her cooler (in m opinion) with that whole Matrix black suit and everything… BUT SHAPESHIFTING INTO CHI CHI!!???? X____X
*prays this movie won’t suck, even though she already has a feelig that this ones going to be a blockbuster anyway*
January 9th, 2008 at 10:45 am
i think that they are doing shape shifting on piccolo too.
January 9th, 2008 at 11:32 am
i really really hope they know what they’re doing
January 9th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Wow this movie is sounding weirder by the post. I think what we all have to realize is that this movie can NEVER be made the way the fans will want it made unless it was produced by REAL fans and backed by an independant studio. But no matter how BAD this movie will end up being, will fans go see it? YES Will the nit-pickers go see it? YES. Hell I went and saw Underdog in the theatres!
January 9th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
so….instead of puar and oolong we get mai who is the shapeshifting enforcer of piccolo.
you know what that is not a bad idea…i actually kinda of lik it.
January 9th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
That’s a good idea shape shifting Mai. Then making her become Chi Chi. I wonder how that would look???? It better look good!! I think that would be cool to see Mai shapeshift, because I don’t want to see no talking animals! I thought that was so annoying watching Oolong and that cat talk…. But the most annoying animal has to be that police dog.
January 10th, 2008 at 1:01 am
….Nonononono NO!
Shape shifting was that one cat thing’s ability… and Oolong. Mai is supposed to be the weak yet smart follower of Pillaf… not Piccolo’s main enforcer. Why are they ruining the story inside out? Oh man… this just keeps getting sadder.

To the creators of this abomination:
This movie is a big mistake from the beginning. Don´t waste your money and your time.
¿Will you watch a japanese version of Batman with an asian guy trying to be Bruce Wayne, shooting fireballs and fightning Joker using giant robots?
January 10th, 2008 at 11:33 am
Considering how bad “Transformers” and “Godzilla” came out in the past, I’m not surprised. But one should expect changes and differences.

This is a rough translation of her post about DB, but I hope it helps:
I returned to LA. My flight on “Aeromekishiko Air Lines” had been delayed. By chance, a cancellation had given me a seat, and I ran to get on the plan. For one night, I stayed in the hotel at the airport, and afterwards flew to LA.
It was necessary to go directly from the airport to the fiting session. I was taken by Limousine (arranged by FOX) to the Universal Lot, where a different person than usual took measurements for my wardrobe. Many materials and colors were used, and I got to experience the work of a professional who has handled the wardrobe on many films.
In Mexico, speaking was hard. I was embarassed at the airport and hotel, because everyone spoke spanish, and sorrily, I cannot speak Spanish. I tried to ask them to repeat things in English, but after a couple of tries I gave up.
From the airport, we went right to the studio in Mexico City. I met with Producer Tim, and chatted with him a bit. I then met the other Producer, Jim (the second time since the audition.) After that, I was brought directly into makeup, and had to test the camera.
The Studios in Mexico differ from those of Hollwood, after all, studios differ in different parts of the world. My co-star, an actress from Hollywood (Emmy Rossum, most likely), was surprised because there are no trailers in Mexico. I was fine with it, there are no trailers in Japan either.:D
I was very glad to get a welcome from director James Wong,(Final Destination, The One, and furthermore the televison series “The X-Files”), when I got to Mexico City. I am really honored to be working together with a competent director, in such a good-looking film. I feel really lucky and am grateful to be able to work with him. He has become one of favorite directors to work with, because he is gentle and calm while directing.
After the camera tests, and other events, he took me out to a wonderful restaurant for dinner, where we discussed my role, and various things about the movie over a delicious meal. He spoke in Japanese with me, and commented that I should try various things with the role, and said that it was sort of “Over the Top.” Having connected this from the auditions to this discussion I feel really good about what the director believes.
Now I enter training today, to try and meet the director’s expections. Though I feel al little pressure, I will do my best! Thanks for the chance, I now go to lunch!
January 10th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Thanks Dukemon.
January 10th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
sketchy translation but you get the point….Everyone, how is cold season passed?
I have struggled everyday training and the script.
Recently, even when walking the town entering at the store, there to be many times when is perceived, the girl and the boy being excited, because you speak, it is strange feeling.Like this, doing, the girl and the boys American keep becoming large, it is with the shank. Playing the role of the television which they see, as for being touched to such a wind with the look of yearning “it is to call is with me, or” with it is the frame of mind which was said. Being said that we want taking the photograph in the cord, however it was the middle which buys the suitcase you took yesterday communication a little, but the way of that excitation, that as for” HEROES” it is flowing even in England, it is with the shank. Me you did not know, is.This time it will try hearing once in someone. In the group which has come to travelling in loss, finding me whom you were walking accidentally, it seemed that is surprised. When you make a noise in such a manner, my one becomes tense. .When appearing in outside from now on, you must try to have applied make-up after all with always?。Then at the time of suitcase/baggage check, the person of that person in charge looks at me at the airport of LAX to become, the baggage not checking completely, just story of the part which I “of HEROES” have played doing, it is to pass that way.It is to call is or, with such a thing.!!
However everyone now such a manner looks at my thing, really, so it is not elegant everyday life, it is.Always you are your own fight.
Also everyone, please enters please your good year.We would like to designate 2008 of next year as splendid year.We ask also next year, please may!
Praying the fact that the opportunity which it can meet with everyone once upon a time comes. Happy New Year!!(your gonna have to comprehend

gman transformers was bad?? lool transformers was great, maybe the best anime-live action adaptation
January 10th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
gman: Dude, Transformers was an AWESOME movie. That’s like, not even negotiable.
Eriko Tamura seems like a nice lady. Let’s hope she can get over that and play a good villainous Mai, though. I hope her character ends up a little bit goofy and incompetent, too, like her manga counterpart.
January 10th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
I agree with gman on Transformers.
:p
January 10th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
why is everyone worried about the shapeshifting, remember kami does use someones body to fight in the tournament…..i see no problem with the shape shifting,it sound like a good idea…..!
January 11th, 2008 at 9:23 am
This movie sucks.
Krillin and wild Goku NOW !!
January 11th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
Kami doesn’t shapeshift - he possesses someone’s body.
January 11th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Dude this movie is gonna rock!
January 12th, 2008 at 2:22 am
Ive been waitin for this movie to be made a very long time. i hope it does well so i cant WAITTT.
January 12th, 2008 at 9:40 am
There probly doing shapeshifting on her because they don’t want talking animals (excluding Sheron) in the movie…since Puar and Oolong wont be in this…and theres no Shuu and Pilaf either..I can understand them giving Mai shapeshifting. >_>
And thanks for the translation Dukemon.
And she’s glad she’s got the role? Isn’t she japanese…DB is HUGE in Japan..the changes are pretty obvious to anyone and the fact that they are streching to far from the original is too. o_<
And YES I agree with Gman on Godzilla, good movie, but NOT good as a GODZILLA movie. >_> Godzilla isn’t a wuss! But the kaiju’s design was awesome thou. But TF was great,it in no way was a flop or terrible. It actually pays tribute to the fans and the original UNLIKE DB is doing now and G’98. -.-
January 12th, 2008 at 10:23 am
By paying tribute to fans do you mean focusing on human characters instead of the Transformers themselves?
January 12th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Can we really go out from this thing? That we don´t see a speaking Dragon also Shenron (shen Long) ?
Because the movie sounds DRAGON BALL! With no dragon, this movie will really suck. I must say that, because i see it so.
In a DRAGON BALL MOvie we need a Dragon, because the movie would be to strange for me….-.-”
I hope we see a dragon like the dragon from DRAGONHEART!
January 12th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
I’m holding my feelings on this till I watch it. I was one of those that got really nervous about the TF movie’s changes, but it came out incredible…
With the director that did “The One”, I’m a little less worried now.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Wait, what? Why are people thinking there will be no Shenlong now? We already know the DragonBalls themselves are one of the main focuses of the story, so why wouldn’t they end up summoning him?
Oh, and Transformers without a Witwicky protagonist is like DragonBall without Bulma.
True, they could have focused a little less on the humans, but at least *I* didn’t notice or care. There was more than enough giant-robot-smashing-action to keep me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Exactly Jp,
“Transformers,” tried too hard to be the action movie gem of the year. Instead it focused most of its energy on lame characters– Many of them who were usless and didn’t develop.
Plus the only Transformer that looked like himself at all was Optimus. Why did all the other Transformers have insect-heads? Why was that necessary?
Furthermore, since the movie spent so much time on human characters, we don’t get invested in the Transformers enough to care about them. Jazz is a huge character in Transformers, yet his death came and went without much of an afterthought.
Transformers was a waste of potential, talents and good ideas. Good effects and action scenes filmed by a hack director without a tripod don’t make a good movie.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Totally agree GMAN.
January 13th, 2008 at 7:52 am
Yes, i think, too that we would see a shenron ^_^”
I will see, the scene like the manga, how the dragon come out aus the balls and the sky is black and only shen longs light we can see.
*___* In real this must be so amazing!
PS: Shen Long is also a fantasy character, not a animal…^_^”

There is a website which did an online interview with James Marsters. He mentions Dragon Ball. But the interesting part is that there is an upcoming interview or session on the 15 of Jan. that is 2 days from now. You can send your own questions to. I propose that we all send our questions. especially this one.
What can you tell us of your role as piccolo in the upcoming dragonball movie? and are you going to be green in the movie?
If we all send the same questions regarding Dragonball it is going to be quite hard for him to ignore (I think) So what do you say? Spread the word and send as many questions as you can, (Do not forget to ask if he is going to be green. that would clear a lot of questions)
The link is…

Lets do this. Please:D

By paying tribute to fans I mean they actually bothered to listen to the fans,DB is showing no plans on doing so. And it can’t really, considering the tight schedule its in and the writers strike.
January 14th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
@alzatia: It’s because they probably know how many DragonBall fans are, unfortunately, whiny brats with about as much intelligence as a crazed wolverine, and about as forgiving and compassionate as one, too. Though I’d imagine a lot of Transformers fans are the same. XD
January 18th, 2008 at 1:34 am
So Kaboom, who is the movie being made for if not fans? Dragonball has a worldwide following of millions. To that extent, we the fans shouldn’t be scoffed at as a bunch of immature idiots. Its our love of this story that is potentially going to give 20th Century Fox huge profits. At the very least 20th Century should deliver a product that is respectful of the original material.
I don’t see that so far. So far I see a bastardization that is being made to capitalize on our love of Dragonball. Will people just admit that this does not look like the world Akira Toriyama created.
Son Goku is supposed to be a kid in Dragonball with a tail. Not a high school student. Where is Krillin? Who is Teto? I’m seeing a lot of drastic changes that seem to be for the sake of change.
I’m tired of film makers thinking that every comic film needs to be grounded in reality. Why?? I watch anime and read manga for its escapist entertainment value. A real Dragonball film should be a whole other world totally divorced from reality. Look at the source material. Has anyone ever seen a Live dragon talking? How about talking cats and pigs? Nooo? I really would have loved to have seen a very faithful, fun Dragonball movie that leads into a serious Dragonball Z movie.
None of the actors look like the characters from Dragonball. As if they could without lots of CGI. Speaking of which, I think a new Dragonball Z movie in CGI like BEOWOLF would have been mind blowing. This looks mind numbing.
February 5th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
You know vampire, not all of us want to see the same Dragonball story regurgitated time and time again.
And I personally hated that stupid cat and pig. The way theyre going with Mai is sounding pretty awesome.
