Chow Comments on Dragonball

In The Oriental Daily, Hong Kong’s most circulated newspaper, actor Chow Yun-Fat commented about his role in Dagonball.

According to the paper, Chow has received the script and plans on going on location in Mexico for two months, although he has yet to sign all the paperwork for his role.

Chow will play Master Roshi, the mentor to the film’s lead character Son Goku (Justin Chatwin). The newspaper says that he has yet to read Akira Toriyama’s original fighting manga, and that he is basing his decision to join the cast on the script. He is reportedly amused to be playing mentor roles in this stage of his career.

Thoughts On The Super Bowl…

Posted by JP | Uncategorized | Thursday 20 December 2007 12:30 am

People have been asking me when we’ll see something official from Fox about the movie. Your guess is as good as mine. Since the film is being rushed, it’s hard to say.

However, Variety recently published an article about February’s Super Bowl and the Studios that will be putting out TV spots for their upcoming releases. Paramount and Marvel are planning on showing something for Iron Man, while Sony will be all about their Will Smith actioner Hancock. It is said that Fox plans on showcasing one of their summer tent-poles as well, but decided not to say which.

Universal, Warner Bros. and Fox also have bought time in the game but declined to disclose which films they would push.

With the game on Fox, network fare such as “American Idol” should be heavily hyped, but the sister film studio’s slate could factor in extensively.

Could Fox unveil something Dragonball related on February 3? We’ll just have to wait and see!

All About the Hair

Posted by JP | Crew | Wednesday 19 December 2007 5:20 pm

Rokakarotto of LAA directed us to an article talking specifically about the hair in Dragonball, along with a few scene descriptions.

The site (here) has a few interesting tidbits:
- Justin Chatwin wont wear a wig because his hair is “already like Goku’s”.
- Most of the female characters (both lead and extras) will have unique hairstyles. Most notibly Emmy Rossum, Bulma, will wear a blue wig.
- There will be a lot of oriental influenced locations shown in the movie, including one where a “youth festival” takes place. According to the article, this is wear Goku and Chi Chi meet.

Also, after searching online I came to a new article from El Universal that says Emmy Rossum is now on set filming a scene were Piccolo attacks her father and takes off with his Dragonball.

The article also mentions the oriental inspired architecture, as well as Aztec Temples (perhaps for Piccolo?).

More Casting. . .

Posted by JP | Cast | Tuesday 18 December 2007 10:18 pm

McKlyde found an interesting article from El Universal with a few quick casting tidbits.

The site talks about filing in Mexico City with a few choice Mexican born actors playing unspecified students (Carey Fuller/Agundes perhaps?). Those actors are Luis Arrieta and Rafael Valdez.
British actor Julian Sedgwick will play a teacher. I’m guessing Mr. Kingery.
The site notes that the filming, which is to end on the 22nd, is for outside shots of extras and the city, specifically mentioning the futuristic look that Fox is going for. Also, don’t expect talking animals like in the manga. They’re out.
